Exclusions: Other Species Feats Starting Feats: Awkward Body and five other feats at character creation.
We will be using a different system for race. You do not mechanically have a race or ability score modifiers. Instead you can choose 5 Feats at character creation. These may or may not relate to your racial identity. These starting feats may be any of those from the new Feats list or from any sourcebook. You essentially build your race, and nothing stops you from being a human/dwarf/elf/dragonborn, or what-have-you. Any race that you feel you can represent with this system is acceptable. Similarly, you don’t have to have all the traits associated with your race, for whatever reason you feel like putting into your backstory. You may have only one Species Feat, which must be selected first, if at all. This replaces the usual 5 starting Feats.
Does this mean that an Arau character does not get Spider Climb, Web-wielders, Sunless Eyes or Darkvision? I was hoping to create an Arau Warlock with the feats: Cunning, Cunning Decit, Distraction, Durant and Parkour plus racial abilities. She would be a Pact of the Blade adherent. On reading the bit on creating characters I am confused at the seeming contradiction in the two above pieces.
The Stereotypes tell you what feats are typical for a character of that race, but they aren't required and they aren't automatic. The five feats are there to let you 'build the race', to whatever degree makes sense. Taking a species feat means you don't get the usual 5, but each of the species feats give you some free feats, usually after requiring one or more. I'm thinking that I may want to rework this to be more clear. In the case of Arau, you get 5 feats anyway from the species feat, so essentially you just have to take Awkward Body and then it's normal character creation (for this system).
So you wouldn't have the racial abilities plus the other five feats, but you could mix them.
If you're looking to play an Arau without Spider Climb or Web-wielders, you might want to have the character's family line resemble one of the non-web-building spiders. Strictly optional, since it's an aesthetic thing. You might resemble one of the larger arachnids (my brain goes to the Goliath Birdeater immediately).
Lila Bard, Arcane Trickster Rogue. Backgrounds Urchin and Criminal
Lila was always going to be a pirate. Ever since the day she was left at the orphanage in Deep Port. It always seemed so glamorous, the boats and the swashbuckling, the freedom, but obviously the prospect was a little above her standing. From a very young age she was a talented thief, her quick tongue and faster hands saving her countless times from her reckless attitude. At age nine she was well known on the streets, though most thought her a young man. One day, as she was doing her rounds, she pilfered the purse of a man in robes and managed to steal a beautiful dagger. It was inlayed with precious materials and intricate runes, but the strangest thing about it was how other people treated it. When she tried to sell it, thieves and merchants alike scoffed in her face, telling her that they don't buy junk. Little did she know, this was the first sign of her talent. After a few years she had become infamous, known as the Shadow Man - the thief who could be caught, and a large bounty had been placed on her head. Obviously this turned many eyes and she was constantly avoiding one hunter or another. However, she met her match when she ran into a bounty hunter who had the gift of the arcane. She always had trouble with enemies you couldn't stab. He caught her snoozing, cast a binding spell on her and brought her back to his lair to gloat. Despite his skill with magic, he was not as clever as you might expect. Lila managed to talk him into loosening her bonds, and when he went to sleep she escaped, taking his spell book as a souvenir. Which she promptly forgot about. It was only months later when she was told at a bar that anyone could have the gift that she decided to take a look. She didn't have high hopes, but she needn't have worried. As soon as she spoke the first incantation it was clear that she was a natural. The magic wove around her fingertips like all the people she twisted round her fingers. By the time she reached adulthood she was not only a deadly swordsman, but a practiced mage (If a bit limited in her repatoire). She was also bored. Being a thief sounded exciting until you actually were one, and then it became a drag. She decided she was going to pull off one last job in the city - she was going to steal a sky ship.
It couldn't be any sky ship however, it would be a magnificent one, one belonging to the iron empire. A true pirates ship. after a month of work, she managed to sneak into the quarters of the master of the docks and take a look at his ledger. She struck gold when she found that two ships of raiders would be docking there that evening, and one of the crews would be lodging somewhere else that evening, leaving the ship relatively unguarded. That day she finalized her plans and that evening she set out to steal her ship. She snuck past the guards and out onto the docks, relishing the height and the winds. She located the ship and made her way up the gangplank until she reached her destination. There was a single sentry, a tall man with a mean looking face and an even meaner looking scimitar. She dispatched him with relative ease, putting a knife between his ribs and into his kidneys. He let out a gasp as he sunk to the ground with a thud. That was when everything started to go down hill. One by one, the entire crew of the ship emerged from below deck and surrounded her until finally the captain came and stood in front of her. It turns out they had switched the location of the two ships so the other could be closer to the inn. The captain looked her in the eye, a wicked smile on his face "You killed my best thief. Now I am gonna kill you." She met his gaze and her face stilled for a moment. Then she grinned back "Your wrong." He let out a bark of laughter "About what?" "About that being your best thief. I am your best thief." He studied her for a second, then nodded. "If you managed to sneak past the guards, onto the ship and take out Jared then yes, you are one good thief. But your not mine. If you come with me, I will find you a job" She smiled, and agreed. After only a few days she had been assigned a job on a raiding ship owned by the Iron Empire. She was a pirate, not with the status she wanted of captain, but a pirate none the less. And it was here her true journey began...
I am working on a warlock character who will be a specialist as a Combat Engineer: those begin with her using Explosive Seeds and Tangler Grenades to start and the developing steam power projection systems to deliver them and similar devices. One would be like a Tangler Grenade except the payload would be razor wire; useful for shredding rigging and gasbags.
Her history involves combating drow and drider groups, well family history, she has always wanted to fly!

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Build bridges/destroy bridges; trenches, saps, obstacles, specialized weapons like I hinted at; boarding equipment, nets, planks, etc.; scorpions, catapults, ballista and mangols; Greek fire, acid bombs, incapacitating agents; smoke pots and bombs. The potential is intriguing to say the least, especially in the realms of aerial warfare and airborne operations. If this concept finds favor I am sure much more will come to mind.

The milestone system looks really interesting, but I may need to know a bit more about the story and the starting premise before I write my Agendas and destinies

This sounds cool. I'll post a character later once I have a chance to read through some of this.

“Other species feats” refers to the chazmyrian, omolo, and centaur feats. Not to other feats that require a certain species.

The Wealth Domain has been revised and completed, thanks to player feedback.
Given the submissions so far, this ship is setting up to be a bit 'darker' than the previous two. Nothing wrong with that.
Please try to have character sheets (or a first draft of them) in by the 18th.
I have scoured the original post and I can't find anything about destinies or agendas...could I get some clarifications on what those are?

I thought I put a link to that. I'll check in a minute, but in case I didn't, here.

When you say a specialist as a combat engineer, what does that refer to mechanically?

I mean is it a feat or something like that?
I would assume it is probably an Artificer...
