A strongbox in a wagon, has been held for ransom by an elemental, whom is looking to get rich.
A greedy dao stole a religious relic that was being transported to a new temple, and is holding ransom for 1000 gp. If the artifact is safely returned, the temple will lend the party the money they would use on the ransom, and help finance spells in the future.
"The livestock petrified a giant to feed the poor..." I can make this work.
Once upon a time, there was a faming community. Unbeknownst to the commonfolk, the river that all their livestock drank from had magical intelligence-granting properties that wear off over the course of several (1d6+2) days after drinking. These newly intelligent livestock got up in the night to have a meeting. They were being killed for meat because the commonfolk didn't have enough money to feed themselves. During the conference, they decided that they either had to find some money for them or another food source. So when they heard from Sean the Sheep that there was supposedly a giant living in a castle in the sky, and castles tend to be filled with expensive things, they decided to try and steal the giant's stuff to give to the commonfolk. Now all they needed was a way to get up there.
They kept their intelligence hidden from the commonfolk, so as not to scare them, and managed to evade them when they tried to kill them for meat as they all searched for something to get into the sky with. One day, a travelling merchant brought a bag of magic beans and professed they could sprout huge beanstalks, so the livestock decided to knock him out and take the beans, which they then planted into the ground. The next day, along with other numerous effects from the Bag of Beans, there was just such a beanstalk. The commonfolk were wondering where it came from and sent Jack up to investigate. When he didn't come back, they decided to leave it alone. So, when night fell, a group of sheep went up, as the beanstalk went into a cloud, and their wool would help them blend into the environment. It was hard work, as a sheep, climbing upwards so far with only hooves and no actual hands, but they made it.
They were able to easily sneak up to the castle, but once they got there, the stealth DC got a lot higher, as they didn't blend into their environment as well. Luckily, the giant was sleeping. Just one of the benefits of sneaking in at night. So, the sheep looked around for treasure, and found quite a bit. Though it was all very big and too heavy to carry. The humans below would be able to make some contraption to move them, but the sheep, with no opposable thumbs, could not. But they saw that there was a sword hanging on the wall above the giant's head, and realized that if they could kill (or at least incapacitate) him, they could get the humans up there to collect the treasure and stop killing them for meat. So, Baa Baa the black sheep tried walking along the narrow ledge of the shelf above the giant's bed to the sword. Luckily, he was successful, and jumped down onto the sword to knock it onto the giant. He rolled a nat. 20 on the attack roll, though, and the sword turned out to be a Blade of the Medusa and he ended up petrifying the giant rather than killing it. Luckily, this was still good enough for them to tell the humans and not be murdered for food anymore.
The town guard burnt a priest to serve them eternally (well at least for a few years.)
The town guard, is temporarily replacing the military in the town, and found a dangerous ritual to make a handful of powerful soldiers. To perform this ritual, they burnt down a whole temple of nature priests. The next day, a bunch of flaming trees emerged from the ruins, who are now terrorizing the town.
The town guard wants the players to wrangle the trees, not telling them how they came to being.
...The mayor's horse burnt down a kindly gnome to save their life? Okay then.
The mayor of the town found a beautiful, all-black stallion running from a battle, evidently spooked, and decided to take it in. It was a bit hurt and tired, but he nursed it back to health and provided it a home in his personal stables. Little did he know this horse was the son of a centaur and a minotaur who got the horse side of both his parents (and is basically a normal horse with humanoid intelligence that is capable of speech. He's a thief and a rogue, because nobody would ever suspect the horse!). He also has a sister who happened to get the human side of both parents (basically just a normal human with horse-like strength and abnormal speed). They got separated in that battle, and so Zaglid Swifthoof ran for the nearest town, waiting for her to show up before going off to the next town.
One day, the mayor was riding his horse into town when he noticed a band of bandits harassing a kind old gnomish woman the mayor knew, named Fenbys Zoobbludamp. She'd given him some hard candy every time he'd seen her. So, he came close to the bandits and brandished his walking staff like a battlestaff, trying to scare them off. He succeeded, but they took Fenbys with them, probably to use for ransom. Of course, the mayor would have just chased after them on horseback, if one of the bandits hadn't thrown a knife that narrowly missed Zaglid's eye, causing him to spook once again. Zaglid, having thrown the annoyingly lawful mayor off his back, ran in roughly the same direction as the bandits, acting like a normal horse enough to follow them back to their lair, where he waited 'till nightfall. Once everyone was asleep, he went in to save the gnome.
This was when he realized that these bandits were actually cultists and had taken the gnomish woman to sacrifice in their ritual. Luckily, they hadn't yet, as they had to wait 'till daybreak, but they had gotten everything set up and tied her to a pole with a bunch of hay to burn her with. Like the rogue he was, Zaglid decided to search the cultist lair before freeing Fanbys, who was also asleep. He managed to find a few nice, expensive trinkets and a Spell Scroll of Revivify, which he put into his saddlebags before returning to the gnome. He hadn't even begun to untie her when a bell started ringing, waking everyone in the lair. It was then that Zaglid realized that one of the cultists must have cast Alarm on the rope.
Thinking fast, he bent down, snatched some hay, and started acting startled, like any horse who was just trying to eat hay and set off an alarm would. Luckily, the cultist bought his trick, taking him for a normal horse. Unluckily, one of them cast Dominate Beast on him. It didn't work, of course, as he wasn't a normal horse, but he knew they'd kill him if he didn't play along. So, he did. After calming him and locking him in a cage obviously meant for human occupants, the cultist "Dominating" him let go of his concentration and they all went back to sleep. Now, Zaglid would have picked the lock, but it's a very difficult thing to do as a horse, and anyway, they'd probably let him out in the morning. If Fenbys ended up dying, he always had the scroll of Revivify.
Just as he suspected, the cultists let him out just before daybreak. The same one from before "Dominated" him again, putting a lit torch in his mouth and ordering him to light the hay at the gnome's feet. So, he did. Looks like he'd have to use the scroll after all. He was forced to watch as the cultists chanted in Infernal and Fenbys burned, screaming, to death. He waited a few minutes as the cultists completed their ritual, then looked around expectantly. Seeing that nothing had happened, they went deeper into the cave to discuss what went wrong, leaving Zaglid alone with the charred gnome. He took her corpse outside, used the scroll on her, and let the bemused gnome ride him back to town, where the mayor gladly welcomed both him and Fenbys back. Nobody knew why this heroic horse had lit Fenbys aflame, nor how he'd brought he back to life, but he was praised as a hero nonetheless. Sadly, he was stolen a few days later by an exceptionally strong battle-scarred woman in the middle of the night, leaving no trace but the testimonies of those who saw her headed to the mayor's house a few minutes before. Nobody from that town ever heard from either again, though it is unlikely either was ever caught or killed. The mystery of what happened still stands to this day.

But before he can help them he needs his wagon dealt with so he can retrieve his spellbook from the strongbox within.

Instead it caused the local cattle to be possessed by an Aboleth thats frightening the cattle farmers requiring the wagon to be moved to where the cattle are thus the possession ends as the spirits flood the wagon dispelling the darkness and revealing the devil the wizard had contained within the strongbox via his spellbook.
The devil will turn the wizard into a Tiefling then disappear content with the havoc it caused on the wizard as the invisible giant reappears and is returned to normal as he returns the ring that was part of the debt the bandits repaid him.

A little basic, but I can work with it. Last year, bandits overtook the town of portelresh, claiming it as their great haven. They claimed sovereignty and are using the town as a slave port, transporting those who fight with their bandit tribes throughout the world. You are unfortunately one of those and have found yourself in portelresh. You must evade an escape capture, and maybe free other slaves throughout the city-state.
Recently, the town mage came across a dark tome of great evil: The Book of Vile Darkness. Nobody knows where he found it or what he plans to do with it, but he's been locked up in his study for days, probably studying it avidly. One day, a cloaked and hooded figure rode into town on a horse, buying a few provisions for the road and booking a room for the night in the inn. Now, these matters would seem completely unrelated were it not for the sounds of someone failing to get up noiselessly at 3:00 in the morning heard by those staying in the rooms next to this stranger, a few of those near the mage's tower waking due to strange sounds of magic and metal coming from the study around 3:45, the sound of hoofbeats leaving the town near 4:20, and the subsequent disappearance of the mage, stranger, and Book of Vile Darkness noticed by those willing to investigate the sounds later that same morning. Whoever that stranger was or what he did may never be known, but the townsfolk seem glad that the book is no longer near, no longer causing their crops to wilt and their weather to be quite dreary.
Agreed! I'm gonna have to make a few now...
