‘’The party finds a precious trinket, a stone owl, in an old wizard tower that will lead the party into a trap.’’
The party finds a stone statue of an owl in an old tower. The owl is inert, but every morning when the party wakes up, the owl stands in a place that the party did not leave it in the previous morning, facing the same direction every time.
If the party follows the direction, they will eventually come upon an old tomb. If they brave it, the owl statue will help them find hidden ways in the tomb. They will eventually find an old throne room, with a skull on a pedestal in the center. If the owl if within 30 feet of the skull, it will revert to an living owl and fly over to the skull and delivers the souls of creatures it has gathered during the years.
This awakens the demilich and restore it to a normal lich. The lich thanks the party and offers them a gift if they are willing to accept one, and then leaves with its owl familiar to fulfill its plan. Whatever the plan is.

a precious weapon disappeared ogres to exact revenge
a sword has possessed an npc/ a PC and is influencing them to attack ogres when they kill an ogre it’s body disappear. If the sword is asked about it it says it’s to fix the problem permanently. The sword owner was killed by ogres and it was used as a tooth pick. To stop the sword from deleting all ogres from the plane they need to help it get over it’s trauma. If removing all ogres from existence isn’t good enough for the players to intervene have the magic kill the wielder as well.
a priceless heirloom or art piece barricaded a dragon to save their life/lives
A dragon is trapped in a famous art piece. The PC must find out which art piece it is before the dragons allies free it. If freed the dragon will take revenge upon the town/city/kingdom that trapped it. The people that trapped the dragon has also art pieces that look like they contain the dragon to throw off the cult but the spells are breaking so it needs to be repaired/ replaced.

The mayor's horse has been barricaded by wolves for later consumption. Oh. Uh... that makes sense.
Wolves have been prowling the town more and more lately. Nobody's seen them here in such numbers. They seem to be protecting one thing: the mayor's horse. Nobody can get through this barricade, but the wolves are getting hungrier. The party must stop them before they eat the horse, the mayor's most prized possession!

A precious trinket has been given a gift by bandits for the for the heck of it.
The Thieves guild of Pondcoast City have acting strange recently. The bandits have been stealing every valuable item they can get their hands on and presenting it to a blue rubber toy basilisk lizard that they named Jeremy. They have no motive, they just think its funny to pretend to worship Jeremy, and prize him over all the riches of the world.
Brave adventurers, you must sneak into the guildhall and steal Jeremy to end this utter madness.

The livestock has been stolen by bugbears to feed the poor. Okay. A little better.
In the corrupt town of Ferrolk, there are few who risk themselves to help others. One of these such groups is a group of bugbears who call themselves the Anquets. Nobody knows who they are, but they steal varying things from the town and give them to the poor. "I never did see it happen," says the mayor of the town, Zerchal Mosito. "They were there, then they were... gone. Never caught a glimpse of the culprits." This time, the livestock has all been stolen. All the animals are being deposited on the doorsteps of ones not able to survive by themselves. A group of bugbears just outside the town is also acting strange. Could they be connected? Find out soon in "The Ferrolk Anquets".

A favorite NPC has been given a gift by bandits to prevent disaster.
Hm... Okay, I've got an idea.
The bandits were trying to rob this building out in the woods, figuring no one would catch them. Would that they had been wrong. But alas, they were not caught and they accidentally disrupted an ancient seal by killing a... well, seal (this is what happens when overly pun-happy people become wizards) that created a magical field of protection and unleashed a powerful undead servant of some evil god or demon (Orcus would work best in the Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk; I have my own thing for my campaign that would work), which has the power to spread a great contagion that would turn everyone in the land undead. Luckily, this servant demanded some tea from the bandits before setting out on his quest to bring this pestilence. They used this to postpone him by purposefully getting the wrong ingredients and pretending to have misheard. However, soon he will get impatient.
[The tea detail might seem silly were it not for the fact that all undead created by the power of the particular entity I'm using in my campaign have bizarre, unique stipulations on their actions, as a nod to its fae origins. This guy's stipulation is that he must drink tea before setting out on his duty. You can remove that detail and substitute some other method of distraction, copy that piece of lore, or just leave it in all its silliness if that suits your campaign.]
Luckily, there is one way to re-seal the servant. There's a magical puzzle-box that contains a special variant on those magic item statuettes that turn into animals (which I have forgotten the name of). This variant will turn into another of the magical "protector seal" that was guarding the undead before. The box comes with a riddle which serves as a clue to the puzzle. Since these bandits are pretty dumb, some of them snuck away to find someone who could help them solve the box.
[This next part is tailored to my campaign specifically. If you want to use this as an adventure in your campaign, change the fortuitously monolingual bullywug for something else.]
Unfortunately, they found a bullywug who speaks basically no Common, and upon asking him if he knows anything about puzzle boxes or riddles, he responded with the new word he just learned: "Yes!"
Fortunately, that bullywug is friends with the party. So begins their mission to open the box and contain the undead before he gets fed up and goes to get tea himself. If they instead opt to kill the undead, they could still try and open the box and get themselves a magical seal companion if that sort of thing interests them.
The mayor's horse petrified a drow priest to feed the poor. Hmm.
So, the mayor gave his horse a Band of Intellect because he didn't think he needed it (he really did) and didn't want to give it away. His horse turned into a Chaotic Neutral Rogue who steals stuff from neighboring towns, but only from those who deserve it. Nobody believes their claims. After all, it's just a horse. How could it steal such things? Somehow, she got a Scroll that can petrify people, and used it to stonify a drow priest who was also a merchant who was passing through and refusing to sell food to those who couldn't afford it. The mayor's horse is now a bit of a Folk Hero.
The town's bank has been... resurrected? Yeah, apparently the bank has been resurrected by an elemental to pay for their gambling addiction.
Up until recently, the bank sat in disrepair. But then something truly odd happened. A passing azer, who had massive debts accrued from gambling, needed a way to pay it off. The mayor was willing to pay him the money he needed if he would run the bank for him.
This would have passed without comment were it not for the fact that the bank itself was somehow sentient. Not the building, the bank as an institution. No one was quite sure how. Maybe a wizard had deposited some weird magic item. Maybe a ghost was possessing it. Maybe the bank's accounts had just gotten so complex that an emergent sentience was born. Who knows. In any case, money changing hands was like this entity's heartbeat, and by reopening the bank, the azer had unwittingly brought it back to life.
Ways the characters could encounter this bank:
The azer start stealing from his own bank to maintain his gambling addiction. This injures the bank and it acts out in response by creating supernatural events that the adventurers are called in to investigate.
The azer gets fired. Unfortunately, the new manager has no interest in being friends with the bank. Can the adventurers help restore the azer to his old position, or get someone else in there who the bank can trust?
The adventurers just go to the bank one day, as one does, and discover this oddity.
