You could have a high-class group of legendary figures that saved the most of these races from such a calamity that are put in such a good light that people don’t recognize that they’re actually obviously evil.
Oooo.... I LOVE this idea!

All of this reminds me of Thundarr the Barbarian cartoons from the 80's. You should watch a few episodes if you've never seen it. I like that kind of stuff.
Also, I never played the module but "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks" by Gary Gygax had a spaceship in the World of Greyhawk. Maybe you could actually use that ship to have taken the races you chose to your new planet. Your world could be the home planet of the robots and races that were in the Barrier Peaks ship.
New planet but still tied in some historical way to where it all began.
Alright: We still need to hammer out some details for the whimsical world of Dave. Here's what we definitely know:
The selected races that populate the world.
The current state of the world, and its technology.
We're still missing important details such as the pantheon of gods, the main lore, the regions of Dave, and similar smaller details. Let's brainstorm over these next few days and figure something out together!

perhaps instead of gods, there is just Thousands of spirits that Vary in Power. the way they gain their power is Via Creating more of whatever they control (example: Nature spirit growing a forest) but they Can't do it themselves unless creatures do some rituals to summon some of their Power. the main ones would basically be the Equivalent of gods tho. but unlike gods, they don't have celestial minions.

Well in my world, in the Age of Dragons, caused by the Damnation, when the head goddess and head god abandoned mankind bc they did terrible deeds and angered the gods, and the Taroka (Bird people) and the Kakaroki ( cat people) and Animal Folk went extinct with the Second Great War, a battle between Dragons and Humankind. (might make a thread on this)

maybe there could be a god of the spirits. and i agree, it is a cool concept. In my world, the Nine Divines can bring themselves down to the world as mortals. Here are the Nine just cause.
The One Being: The head goddess, an incarnation of the light and dark forces, appears as a beautiful woman in her mid-30's
Renrakia: Head God, the incarnation of ice and fire, war and peace appears as a royal-looking human
Ymigramo: God of war, appears kind of like a Spartan, except his armor looks like its made of ebony, his spear made of pure adamantine, seething with power
Kankeeri: the God of Law and Luck: appears as a jolly oversize halfling
Danuin: (thanks to skyrim) The god of dragons and destruction: appears as a dragon, obviously
Marigybluyet: The goddess of death, probably the most powerful evil god other than Sakantos, appears as a sort of a mix of a flameskull and a banshee (ill get to him in a moment.
Tiwa: God of bloodlust. (some say god some goddess, its not known) Appears as a pure blood red humanoid
Pholorius: The god of Light and the Holy: appears as a brave elf paladin
Crakonn: The god of Chaos and Unpredictability: appears as a madman dwarf or human. (once he messed up and turned into a piece of cheese. took him ages to get back to his form bc he was eaten XD)
Other thing: since the Disaster that wiped out other races is still relatively recent (just 3 generations), I doubt that the new dominant species of Dave had enough time to moltiplicate (despite goblins probably being prolific). I don’t know their numbers per-Disaster. But probably you will still have relatively small populations: small cities, small cultivated areas and wide wilderness between different kingdoms.
After 100 years many objects and architectures (let’s think of castles) of old races would still be viable (even if decrepit) and I guess that races like goblins could have occupied them.
You could see strange things, like a former gnomic city full of goblins, with patched gnomic buildings and machinery, totally ruined buildings and some brand new goblin hut.
I've been wanting to create my own D&D world for a while. Normally, I just have a generic, unnamed Earth-like world with the standard planar system. I was hoping to get out of that loop by making a world, but I don't have many ideas. Any suggestions?
I don't have a pantheon or planar system decided, all I know for my world is that most of the 'generic' races went extinct or left to distant realms because of.... something. Here's all the races I think will be around (free to be changed around, of course):
Arachne
Lizardfolk
Tortles
Tieflings
All Goblinoids
Yuan-ti (no magic resist)
Grung
All the 'normal' races of dwarves, humans, elves, halflings, etc. are gone. Other than that, let your imaginations run wild!
I think it would be cool to include some dragonborn. But that’s just me.

In generale reptilians species.
If there was a plague that killed all human(oids) species, it would make sense that other reptilians species have survived.
With this kind of a species restriction, I would suggest allowing players to freely choose their Ability score bonuses and maybe use racial features from other races for optional lineages in order to keep character creation mechanically diverse despite of this restriction. 😄 To me this would be important because 5e has very little character customization so racial features are quite important imo.
An idea that came to me is that the calamity left its share of undead and these have a distinguishing characteristic from modern undead. E.g. they’re infused with some remnant of its cause or they’re controlled by a sapient construct that survived.

For players who know the meaning of 4:23PM on Friday, September 23rd, will that knowledge transfer to their characters?
Here me out. An entire village, wait for it, filled with ghosts of the extinct races.

It would be the more reasonable explanation
I think this is the most reasonable explanation
Since you have lizardfolk you could have also kobolds and troglodytes.
Troglodytes could live in caves and be barbarians that most people avoid.
While kobolds would maybe be traders and hired wizards.
