Sylviana Ebonstar, she was a pixie sorceress and spent most of her time as an invisible caster, forcing people to do Otto's Irresistible Dance. She loved pulling coins and things from people's packs and placing them in other characters packs. Although she had a lot of issues messing with PCs (with DMs consent, of course), she was CG and fought for the forest and the fey. In one super memorable adventure, she placed explosive runes on the sails of a ship being boarded by pirates. When the pirate captain read the runes through his spyglass, an explosion blew a hole in both ships! Luckily, the party was able to escape. The poor pirates, though :( Knocking on the locker door of Davy Jones, lol!
Anyone remember the Dwarf Cleric from the Beginner's Pack for DnD? Yep, dubbed by me as Einklr Felhammer, I played him as a gruff but respectful party member who was not afraid to speak his mind, which got the party into several brawls. Lot of fun as my first character, and really got me into the role play aspect of the game.
My first was a Half-elf thief pre-generated by the DM. He lasted 2 or 3 rounds then died. We played AD&D (1e) it was some crazy homebrew Tomb of Horrors type dungeon, the general idea was some kind of dungeon raid with wandering monsters roaming. The long time players had high level characters and the 4 new players were "hired on to assist the intrepid heroes haul their riches home." This was back in the day where high level characters would attract the attention of lower level followers, and that was the 3 other new players and me. We couldn't come back to the main table until we made new characters. Our Leaders, the players running their high level characters had to assist us with our new character build. They had multiple NPC followers to run as well as their main character and the DM would skip them if they weren't ready on their turn. PC followers were also allowed to do more than NPC followers so it was advantageous to get back quickly. My Leader told me to "roll new stats then just copy everything from my old sheet". So my second character was also a Half-elf thief. (With a cooler name and better picture)
I'm so glad I play 5e. Lol
The follower and cookie cutter pre-made BS kind of sucked, but the concept of the horde raid was fun. A lot of sneaking around, looking for traps, (hence the thief was valuable to my leader, and beneficial to me once I knew how to play it) and avoiding patrols when we could. The DM had a cool mechanic for the raid; when we were looting the horde we rolled for success, Fighter classes could carry the most weight (strength bonus to checks) so they could get the most gold but only found rare items on a rolled 20, Magic-users and Clerics (using Int and Wis modifiers) carried the least gold but found rare items on any modified roll of 20 or better. Thieves were special if you hid you could make an automatic success to raid and then "steal" a rare item. plus back then XP was tied to the amount of gold you collected so this was a big leveling event for the upper players. At the end, we were given a percentage of the haul, and granted a rare item from our leader.
I'm actually using this adventure as a basis for my current campaign. I have two on going campaigns in the same world, and the 2 teams will be competing to empty a vault that they worked together to break into.
I made my first character 2 or 3 years ago. Dragonborn Abjuration Wizard. My friend helped me make the character, and I called him "Zip Zip". No backstory whatsoever. Long story short, I chose awful spells and died on the third session of my first campaign. My next character to replace Zip Zip was an aarakocra druid named Waffle.
You can see that I was not that good with names.
I tried to give Waffle loads of backstory, and it didn't really work. This was his awful backstory:
He studied druidic magic in an underground temple, therefore he was Circle of the Land Underdark. He left the Underdark when he was older and, to his annoyance, people called him "Waffle". He decided to get away from civilisation to live in a forest with myconids for ten years. Then, some strange godly magic transported him to another realm, at the bottom of a river. He then swam up from the riverbed, met the party, and joined them on their adventures.
My first ever dnd character was a dwarven circle of the moon druid named Glug Huggins (he loved ale and liked hugging trees). He had the peace, love, and plants philosophy, and right out of the '80s had a tie-dye shirt and a peace sign necklace. He was entertaining and amusing to play even though we only played one session (pretty much a one-shot).

Coffee is a must, sleep is a must, and DND is a must, in that order.
For nostalgia, I want to go ALL the way back to my first RP character when I was 11 years old. That was somewhere around -00 or -01. It was before the first LOTR movie I think, because I was completely oblivious to all the constant lotr references (ripoffs).
A 16yo guy ran us some mega arbitrary homebrew game with rules made up pretty on the spot - and we didn't complain! 😄 The game group was pretty much two kids and Eddie from Stranger Things.
Don't remember much. I remember that it was a dwarf warrior because I was already heavily into dwarves. That hasn't changed.
I remember we pretty much just went to taverns all the time and drank huge mugs of ale.
In the first tavern we met 13 dwarves. (😅) They were these mega gear ultra warriors that wrecked everyone in fights and drinking games.
I remember getting into a fight with a lizard man and winning.
In the same town and for unknown reasons we ended up fighting a shiny Knight Captain and he destroyed us.
Once I was DM for the same group. Except the older friend was still making all the rules and completely abused them too to become invincible. 😂
Ah. Nostalgia. RPs have never been the same since and never will be. To be 11 again without any expectations or a sense of quality roleplaying. Just going about fulfilling those fantasies of drinking beer and fighting lizardmen.
My first charachter was an otter paladin whose name I don’t recall, we got through the setup of the campaign and I was about to be freed from drow captors… we didn’t get to play much of that campaign.

I think the first character I played was AD&D ... and it'd been a Dwarf Fighter (might have been just a dwarf, can't recall what edition I was playing). But I was so freaking young back then, lol - and I remember I got him up to 5th level - and the guy I was playing with (Tim, was it?) - his brother (John?) was DMing. And I was really into the Thor comic, by Marvel back in the day - and I got a lucerne hammer that would return to me (had a range of like 15 feet? So it wasn't like I could throw it far). But I was in love with this character.
One day, John was mad at his brother, just before we gamed - and he had us entering a cave - which turned out to be a giant serpent, and he essentially killed both of our characters.
I am still playing my 1st character! Her name is Lady Selene Albion, a noble in the capital city of Crestilon. Chafing under the strict expectations of her family, she runs away to live with her grandfather, who lives a hermetic lifestyle attuned to nature, and he teachers her the way of a ranger. When her grandfather is killed by a mysterious shadowy cult, Selene recruits new allies, and they embark on a grand adventure to discover their own mysterious powers and uncover the secrets of the Cult of Twilight and get revenge for her grandfather and the many others who have been sacrificed to a growing evil.
We are about halfway through the campaign now after about 1.5 real life years, and Selene is a level 9 Beast Master Ranger with her trusty and loyal companion Bane the wolf. Some of my favorite moments from the campaign so far include the time when Selene was almost bitten in half in her sleep by a gnoll and the time she fell in love with a male brothel worker named Dorian (modeled after Dorian from Dragon Age: Inquisition) lol.

I freaking love when characters allow "falling in love" or even relationships to exist. As a DM way back when (we're talking early 80s), I wasn't always super comfortable putting that aspect in - whether it was a male NPC flirting with a female player or even a male player, or being a female NPC flirting with male/female players.
But all of that went out the window like 5 years ago. Because I realized, that these characters (NPCs and player characters) should be able to express feelings and such. And it's a great tool to sometimes drive impactful stories/adventures. One such case, a male friend is playing a female water genasi druid; and they arrive at a town - and she meets the weaponsmith who I designed (name and appearance) after Kilik from Soul Calibur, and the player didn't catch the reference till I posted a picture from Soul Calibur and they got it - and they actually began to flirt with the character. Now here I am, a male DM now flirting with a female character, but a male player. And it wasn't awkward at all - it was actually a lot of un and made for a lot of laughs. In another game, the players are stuck on a cursed island - and the set up a dating game for the female druid in that group (who is a female) - what was fun is I had other players randomly selecting what the NPCs answered from her dating questions. So that created a lot of fun. She's picked three and takes each one out on a date, that leads into adventure after adventure - and the running joke has become which ever date survives these adventures will be the one she picks. So it's really opened up the game.
My first character was a homebrew. A Native American halfling cleric/theif back when halfling was your class. We started out at level 1 drugged in the hold of a ship, wearing nothing but smiles. The barbarian had to throw me up to the deck where there were three guards with crossbows. I blew my one spell to cast cause wounds and kicked the crossbow down, then ran like heck. The only magic item he had was a cube of everlasting butter. We came up with so many uses for that thing.
Haha! My first character was in 3.5!

Those are some pretty high stats for a level one character, looks like fun.
