This tiefling was accused of cheating at cards in the tavern and the other two gamblers were going to attack him over it I used unseen servant to flip the table with the ale towards them and used minor illusion to produce one of their voices to insult the other under his breath.
The bard tortle Keven was playing his bongos in the bardroyal at the festival and I got him second place with a display using an eversmoking bottle controlled by 1 unseen servant, two torches being spun and moved around by another unseen servant, my winged cat familiar acrobatically flying around the torches, and my character using minor illusion to create colored sparks every time keven hit his bongos.
We were only beaten by the tiefling juggling fire clubs doing flips so we got 50gold 25 each.
Then I used detect magic to find if there were any magical rewards at any of the games and found one! it was a wheel that had a 1% chance basically a nat 1 on a D100 so I spent a silver to spin and failed and then gave on more to spin and used my unseen servants from before to stop the wheel! So I got a Driftglobe which is great since I am the only one in the party with darkvision!
Love that my DM allows me to freely use my magic creatively and has made it a lot of fun!
it was, it was his first time being DM and it went actually really well! Basically we all have taken a shot at being DM and only two of us enjoy it so far. But yeah I just love when DM's reward you for creativity and if something seems broken they work to balance around it even if it means asking the player to help explain their character setup to you in depth.
That's spectacular, a DM can't say no to things, because it slows down the creativity of the players. That has happened to me. Not just in magic, but in actions. Why if you want to hack a chest, you can't do it?...
Yeah our group has always tried to keep the thought of you can break a chest open but you can also accidentally break what is inside if you swing hard enough sometimes lol. You could fireball the chest but you also may burn those nice scrolls you want from it.
Really I never understood DM's who remove even official content over dumb reasons... like for example I had a guy tell me the reason his players can't play a loxodon is due to him not liking magic the gathering... like really? you do realize you can right them in as non magic the gathering versions right? so dumb lol. (on a side note I do get if they just don't have a place in your world that you made homebrew or in the lore and you don't feel like adding them in... they I can understand but at least give the player a reason that doesn't make you sound like a prick lol)
Actually I feel I am the only person my friend would allow to use broken UA content purely because I limit how far I break things because I like failing as much as succeeding.

Tortles are the humanoid turtle race, the guy even does a surfer dude voice lol. When he first started in another campaign he was identified by his iconic character thompson the rat wizard who worked at the magic school as a janitor dreaming of becoming a teacher so he set out on an adventure to learn more and earn that job lol. Thompson was a rat person which was a homebrew race I allowed in the campaign I was running but life stopped it sadly, it was my first time as DM and my two mistakes I made and learned from is 1) don't plan too much because most of it will get scrapped if you do 2) be careful making encounters because sure 15 zombies to chase players away for suspense sounds cool... but if they decide to fight and succeed at level 2 there is a good chance you are looking at a 1hr fight...
Tortles though get some nice racials like str and wisdom stats, natural 17 AC, the ability to raise AC by retreating into your shell at the cost of dex saves, and a few other things... I kinda thought about a tortle warwizard from a tribe fighting on the front lines with 17 AC and boosting con over dex.
yeah that was my first time as DM and the first session of that campaign but after I quickly learned. I even found a cool reddit post with a list of common and uncommon first time DM questions along with links to matt mercer answering them in interviews back a year ago.

That's awesome! A creative DM with the patience and creativity to allow the players to do as they will, is certainly the best for everyone involved!

That is so cool!
What’s a tortle?

Awesome! Thanks 😊.
And yeah. Mass combat with zombies takes forever.

Also fun thing for DM's and Players if you play online or offline and can't draw well but want to make a prof for your character sheet I use https://www.heroforge.com/ to make the character then use https://pixlr.com/x/ to color it in until they allow you to color on their site. Also for online player and monster tokens during covid me and my friends use http://rolladvantage.com/tokenstamp/?fbclid=IwAR0kaNvnH7HM44IvD8SZdqzz6I6iDRJFUyLw5vBRnTWz9rJU9wxAyPGItUU. Just thought I would share some tools while at it that we use for this kind of stuff lol.
