So, I'm a pretty new DM (I've run about 7 sessions so far. It's going well thanks) and I'm going to run a one shot for family in the coming weeks. I was thinking about different films to lift a story from and love the idea of a ' Warriors - us against the world' type of story. I'm surprised that my initial searches didn't find anything that other Dm's have produced but I'd love to hear your ideas please.
The concept would be that a powerful individual gathers all of the adventuring parties of a region (probably Waterdeep/Sword Coast as I am getting to know the area well) to unite and take over. Maybe to destroy the Lord's Alliance and take power. During the meeting of these hundreds of groups, said individual is assassinated by one of the groups and the blame is placed on our heroic PC's. They then need to fight/sneak/cajole/seduce their way back to their safehouse, through all of the other adventuring parties and any other obstacles that might be put in their way, ultimately squaring off with the real killers and clearing their name.
I think it leaves gameplay very open for lots of different types of encounters and skill challenges as well as social interaction and mystery. What types of thing would you add into this? The more ideas I can get the smoother it can run and the more believably random I can make it!

I think that is a great idea!
Plan according to how much time you have and how many sessions you might run. If it only one session you'll need to watch your encounter time.
Try to balance fights, stealth, and RP. Re-watch the movie to get comfortable with the themes.

You might look at the Odyssey, since that’s what the movie was based on. I’d bet someone has done something with that.
Looking at the Odyssey is a good shout. I'll get on that.
"Can you dig it?" definitely needs to be in there!
I think balancing the encounters to be either multi-part or always have an opportunity to escape could make it smoother.
