Just to have some fun with my party, I would like to have them fight the Avengers, but not obviously so... I was trying to decide how to make the Avengers NPCs in the Forgotten Realms:
Thor - Human Northman fighter with scale mail, a belt of giant strength and a dwarven thrower that can shoot lightning bolt 1/day. Capt. America - Human Gladiator with chain mail and a shield Scarlet Witch - Half-elf female wizard (Abjuration) in scarlet robes Iron Gnome - Gnomish male artificer (armorer) who has made plate mail that can fly and shoot thunderwave 1/day Hulk - Ogre Barbarian Beserker Hawkeye - elven fighter (Arcane Archer) with an Efficient Quiver Black Widow - female human rogue (Assassin) with bracers of defense that can do shocking grasp 1/day
I would recommend making Scarlet Witch a Sorcerer to make her like the one in the movies, or a Warlock to make her like the version from the comics.
For the Hulk/Banner I would make hime a Rock Gnome or something else smart instead of an Ogre, and give him an item or something that would let him enlarge himself when he Rages. Remember, Banner is as smart as Stark is.
For Cap I would give him +3 studded leather instead of chain mail, he’s quite dexterous with that shield of his.
By the way, what level is this party? It’s gotta be pretty high, like Tier-3 at least or they’re gonna get Wafflestomped by the Agengers.
I just read a solicitation for an upcoming Avengers issue that's part of the forthcoming "Judgement Day" cross-Marvel storyline. Evidently Hawkeye will be called upon to justify his existence wherein he "must prove that he brings at least as much joy and usefulness to the world as a randomly chosen mailbox, which, admittedly, is a pretty high bar." So assuming your Avengers' Hawkeye survives this trial, I'm not sure how you'd mechanically reflect that worth. Maybe a background trait "Brings more joy and usefulness than a randomly chosen mailbox."
I’d consider Hawkeye as more of a battlemaster and you can flavor the maneuvers as his trick arrows.
And black widow as more of a monk than a rogue. Just with a proficiency in thieves tools and a disguise kit.
I can agree with you about Hawkeye, and had even considered that suggestion myself but figured 3 was enough. I can’t agree about Black Widow. Sure the one in the movies is more like a monk, but the one from the comics was more like a rogue, and she literally is an assassin.
I would just make the shield an attack roll instead of a saving throw and always have it automatically return to him. I would also make it only apply bludgeoning damage, and I wouldn’t give it an AC & HP, but just treat it as an indestructible magic item.
Good point on making it indestructible! I would still suggest saving throw? Admittedly my knowledge is based off the movies, but there's differences between characters who can force the shield to a halt (Winter Soldier) and therefore take less damage, and those (Chitari) who are powerless to stop it and take more damage.
You could customise further so that the shield can bounce off multiple individuals, which would probably require a saving throw (since otherwise somebody has stopped it before it can go further). Unless this made it too complicated, you could have Cap roll an Athletics check at the start of their throw, and depending on how high it went, the more power behind the throw, and so the more characters it can hit before bouncing back to Cap...

I definitely see your point, but also, anyone can be an assassin, you just kill people for money. It’s more of an rp thing. I realize the subclass has the fake identity stuff, which is a big part of what she does, but you can get most of the way there with the charlatan background.
And on the topic of cap’s shield, I’d add in a power that lets him hit multiple targets sometimes, as chocolate noted above. Maybe lIke a multiattack that targets up to three creatures, and he can do it PB/long rest if your building him like a PC, or a recharge 6 for a monster.

Technically someone who kills people for money is a hitman/buttonman/cleaner. An “assassin” specifically kills famous/powerful people. 😉 But I see your point.
I just assumed Cap would have Multiattack and be able to make two - three attacks with his shield on each of his turns. The bouncing it around/off of stuff is just flavoring. Keep it simple; right? Remember, it’s an NPC/monster trait, not a class feature. The DM has to run all of the Avengers here.

Mechanically, Cap bouncing his shield off targets works like Chain Lightning, just change the damage amount and type.
Black Widow has cool toys too. How would you portray those?
I would argue that Iron Dude's suit should do more than just Thunderwave once per day.

Well, having planted my flag on monk for widow. Shadow, or cobalt soul has some powers that could reflect some of what she does. Or sun soul, maybe reflavoring those powers.
The base armorer already duplicates a lot of iron man powers. I guess you need to choose between super punching and shooting laser beams, but you can’t give him everything.

True, Stunning Strike and Shadow Step do reflect the tasers and her ability to move rapidly about the battlefield.

Some really, really great suggestions here! Thank you all so much!
I am trying to decide if I want to play this as a parody in that the party cleans the floor with them (either individually or together) or make it a play on the movies.
DM: "Their leader points to the ogre and instructs him to Smash! You see him building a rage, with his veins popping in his arms as he charges towards you, seeming to hulk larger and larger..."
Party: Cast Charm Monster (or sleep, or anything else...)
I will definitely make him a Tempest Cleric, but since the party is in the Moonshaes, I wanted them to recognize him as a northman, then gradually realize it was Thor. Obviously, he won't be a deity in this adventure... otherwise a Goliath would have been perfect. I may have to make him look like a Ffolkman walking with a cane, then the disguise drops away and they see him as a Northman...

Hulk - probably want them to always be Reckless Attacking?
Cap - would something like the below work for the shield (heavily adapted from Throwing Shield)?
“And what would humans be without love?"
