New DM and new to D&D Beyond. I am running a campaign of the Lost Mines of Phandelver. I bought the digital book and am trying to create my campaign. I know the story comes with remade characters if you have the physical version, can you access those characters on D&D Beyond? Or will I have to create them and add them to my character list? Any help would be appreciated!
90% of the time, Physical and Digital D&D products are two different purchses. Certain products, like the Essentials Kit, have codes which get you some of the adventure content in digital form. Those are more the exception than the norm.
In regards to premade characters, you will have to recreate them. That being said, character creation is quick and easy on the site and gets faster the more you know it. There is also the randomizer option for ultra quick creation, but those can sometimes be less than optimal.
And I can tell you that the PreGens for LMoP aren’t essential to playing the adventure. (Not that I assumed you thought they were) They just had pre-written backstories that featured ties to groups like the Redbrands, or being from Thundertree. Just loose ties and personal goals or ideals so that when those names dropped while playing, the players felt they were already part of the larger story.
When and if you make your own, just make your own loose ties for them. Your dwarf has known Gundren Rockseeker since childhood. He wants to reassert dwarven dominance over the mine and surrounding villages, like Phandalin. Your elf lost a parent to a green dragon attack. She wants to become powerful enough so that when she meets Venomfang, she can kill him. Your gnome comes from Gnomengarde just to the south. They’re a Wild Magic Sorcerer as a result of being conceived in that Wild Magic-prone area. They want to pioneer a colony for Gnomengarde’s expansion.
Just read through the adventure, and if key places or groups strike your imagination, just write it in using the simplest terms. “Your Aunt serves as a Priestess of Tymora in Phandalin.” “Your grew up tending the fields that grow the grain Toblin Stonehill buys and ferments for his beer.” “Your best friend from your youth joined the Redbrands, and you still feel robbed because she’s become a totally different person you can’t relate to anymore.”

Everything else is just level 1 stats.
Thank you! That's great advice!
