I got a big Chessex battle map and I am trying to re-embrace the art of hand-drawn maps on a large scale. It's been pretty rewarding for the most part and i love going back to the old school of drawing dungeons like when I was a kid. The dungeons, doors, rooms, walls, caves etc I can do well enough, but man do I suck at top-down views of trees and water fixtures. Right now, my trees consist of me using a green marker to draw a squiggly circle-like shape and water is just a wobbly outline in blue marker.
I've done a little bit of googling, but it's hard to find help that applies to my situation. Can anyone suggest some examples, or video tutorials on how to make better trees, lakes, and rivers? The more minimal the better because I'm not an artistic person (but I'm willing to try).
