One of my resolutions last year was to try my hand at dming, and another was to learn to crochet. So after seeing the goblinoid bundle on Club Crochet, I thought - hey, why not both at the same time? So, whelp, here's where we've ended up:
Medium characters are about an 1.5inch square, so a touch bigger than your normal miniatures. Apart from using them in encounters, I also enjoy setting up miniature scenes to illustrate points in the story...
AWESOME!!! Both my mom and wife are fiber artists so I really get a kick out of that! My wife is an independent yarn dyer (LINK), so I am well aware of how much work and effort that must have taken. Very well done!
My standard medium characters are an inch and a half square (for the base), and just shy of two inches tall.
Tiny characters are shorter at about an inch and a half, and large ones fit in a three inch cube. We haven't met any huge or gargantuan monsters yet but I'm looking forward to when we do!
Because my characters are to big for the standard 1 inch mats I use custom printed acetate sheets with inch and a half grids, then place different fabrics underneath to change up the terrain :)
Hey hey, I can't believe my last post here was over two years ago :O My gosh time has flown!! I've so many updates to share with yous :)
First off, I've been working on my patterns and I've finally managed to get my miniatures down to fit in an inch by an inch grid. And even though there's less stitches, I'm more adventurous with my stitches, so I can fit so much more detail into a much smaller area. To really test this out, I made a wee homage to Vox Machina...
From here, I thought, hey if I'm making miniatures, why not have a go at making some props? I love nature so I started off with a woodland scene, trees, ponds, rivers...
And then last night I pulled it all together into my first fully crocheted battle map!
And yes - that is a crocheted castle. Inspired by the beautiful pink plaster of Craigievar Castle in Aberdeen, Scotland. It comes with moveable doors, and a flagstone flooring that aligns to an inch by inch tile - it's easier to see IRL but 2x2 flagstones = 1 square inch.
My next project is working how to crochet modular terrain tiles so I can layout a couple of dungeons, which is definitely going to keep me busy and out of trouble. If anyone else has been crocheting for their campaign, I'd love to see what you've been up to <3

Those goblins (and all the others too) as very cute. Well done on creating so many and to such a good quality in such a short time.
I am a square. Watch me equilateral.

LOVE that other people do this!!!!
If you’re feeling ambitious, using a 5mm hook you can make a 2 row granny square. It’s the prefect grid size for minis :3
Im making one that’s 10x10 so it gives my dm 50x50 feet you work with. It’s tedious but I’m hoping it’ll be worth it!!!
Talent and skills? You have it

Those are awesome! I loved the wee Vox Machina, but that castle really steals the show. Great job!

Totally mind blowing!! Awesome,
Gosh, those are super cute! Are those patterns your creations? If so, do you sell them? Would love to give it a go!
This is really cool because I crochet like this to. I make larger replicas of characters.
I remember when this was originally posted. Feels like forever ago.
These are lovely. Glad you stuck with DnD and crafting.
