Hi all, I will start Dm-ing STK in a few weeks but feel like the adventure needs some tweaking. For one thing, I really want to have the scope for the players to reach level 20. Also, I have read STK and I think some areas are a little weak. I have a few thoughts on what I would like to do but I would really appreciate any thoughts or advice on if it would work or how to accomplish it.
Ideas:
- possibly incorporating another adventure to run concurrently. The Rise of Tiamat would give Iymrith more of a motive,
- the party will have to defeat all 5 rebellious giant Lords. This will lengthen the STK part of the campaign but what's the point of an adventure about giants if you don't get to fight all the giants?
- the stone giants mission will change to releasing the Dodkong (I have thoughts about the body of Hekaton's wife and the Dodkong's long dead lover) (will require stats for the Dodkong and undead giants),
- probably removing Slarkrethal altogether.
I also want to incorporate one of my players ideas but need some advice on that. She is thinking of playing a twilight cleric but playing into the 'protect you from the monsters of the night' aspect a bit more metaphorically. The idea is that her character has somehow been resurrected from ages past and all they can really remember is the prophecy of the Long Night, a nightmarish time of darkness, death and terror if nothing is done to stop it.
My thoughts are that the BBEG of the Long Night has masterminded events to their advantage, trying to weaken the forces that will oppose them. I don't think that Iymrith really fits the bill, I'm not too sure what her motives are beyond destabilising the giants. What is she trying to achieve? The Dodkong could be it but I'm not sure how he could be the mastermind. How could he manipulate an ancient dragon into doing what he wants? Perhaps there is another figure manipulating both of them?
Once again any thoughts or advice would be very welcome. I just want to make an awesome campaign for my friends.
The kraken could fit the bill for your big bad. It could be manipulating Iymrith to destabilise the swordcoast so it can eliminate rivals and gain more power.
(In my world aberrations are cthulhu type creatures that seek the disruption of our reality so it can be consumed, and krakens are the heralds of the great old ones)

Ohh, I like the idea of reality disturbing aberrations. That would definitely fit the nightmare idea.
