If the player wants, their character can try again (and they get to roll again) but each successive attempt will cost them something. Time, probably.
Perhaps they are trying to loot the chest while escaping from monsters, and with each failed attempt the monsters get closer. Perhaps a party member is bleeding out and the party knows healing magic is in the chest, now each failed attempt on the chest is another death save.
If there is no cost to successive attempts, then don't roll. Tell the player, "You find a tripwire." or "There are no traps."
