I said, "I'm not going to stress about encumbrance as long as you are not taking the mickey."
They said, "OK."
But then… I found that the highest strength in the party was 10, and party loot included five sets of heavy armour, and no-one was taking any speed penalties.
And they had the cheek to suggest that the solution to the issue was me giving them a bag of holding.
Quite a sad shenanigan happened in a previous party of mine.
So, one of the PCs was a changling who was obsessed with true crime. He found a true crime book about the place that they were venturing to next. He wasn't sure if changlings were accepted in this town, so he disguised himself as a victim of an unsolved murder case. I said roll for deception and he got a nat20. I explain how as he walked into the town, murmurs could be heard throughout the townsfolk, all staring at him. He was about to speak, when I cut him off. "Before you can talk to your party members, you feel a small pair of arms wrap around your waist. 'Papa?' asks a little voice." He chooses to look at the little girl. I say roll for deception, he rolls another nat20. I tell him "You stare down at the little girl. She looks no older than 7. She had tears in her eyes, and started giggling mostly out of shock and joy. She hugs you tighter, before pulling away in a fairly quick manner. 'Stay here!' she looks at the party 'I'll go get Mom!' " Yeah, the party at this point is like 'oh we f**ked up-'. A few moments later, the little girl returns with an older woman, her eyes glossy. She stares at her suppoed husband in disbelief. He says he walks up to her and calmly says 'Hey...love.' and I tell him roll for persuasion. He rolls a 7. "The mother looks at you with sorrow in her eyes. 'Please do not play with my heart like this traveler... I can sense you're a changling. Besides, my husband would never call me love, especially after he has been gone for years.' She walks away, leaving the child there in the street. The young girl looks up at you with tears in her eyes. 'So you really aren't papa?' she asks." The player then shook his head no, to which I replied with "The little girl starts crying, running back away to her mother." The whole party was silent, and the changling was actually pretty messed up after that. He even stopped disguising himself for a while, and if he did it was usually some random person he came up with. He was also a lot more cautios after that point, rather than the usual impulsive character he was.
Party entered a town. the town was closed, and they found an apothecaries, and the warlock and monk decide to break in and rob the place. When they do, they stealth in, and hear the breathing of a large, sleeping animal in the next room. They make too much noise, and wake him up, and out comes a sleepy and confused, and extremely fat bear.
Cue flashback about 10 sessions, when they met Gilmora and Weelum, the apothecary and her immensely fat and very cute bear companion who pulls her harvesting cart. Everyone loved Weelum.
Players fantically try to escape without hurting Weelum, who is now guarding the shop. Eventually they succeed, and the barbarian (who speaks bea) asks Weelum if he's okay, and he replies in his slow voice "Nooo, I failed...." and sadly returned to the shop. The players were so sad about accidentally robbing the big cute bear!
This happened in a server i both dm'ed for, and played in, never at the same time though
I had been playing on an open to join dnd sever on discord. Then a person joined the game, and was trouble from the very beginning. See my character had recently (n game) invented guns. They had never used them in combat as at that point as i was still testing them out and determining how to properly handle them in combat. Well this person asked if i could make grenades, I said i could bt it would not happen for several months irl as i still had to have my character iron out guns in character. he joined the next session with grenades and said that i made them for him.
There were several times where he did small things like that, Time Skip in game and my character had children, He was still being a butt and was being threatened with being banned, Because i was usually the first to call him out on bs he decided t take something from me, in the form of one of my kids. That's right, he kidnapped my child in rp. So i sent my character out with the guns, She defeated his character in a fight, Then tied him up. she proceeded to beat his character within an inch of his life, i only did this because he pulled the "Its what my character would do" card. So i did too. He did not like what happened and started calling me, and everyone who took my side, racial slurs. He was promptly banned
Had a party member tell my daughter to smash a healing potion into his mouth. Before he could correct his verbiage she smashed a healing potion into his mouth...rolled a 20 to do so. I was DM'ing and with everyone else couldn't stop laughing. My daughter quickly started to roll a medicine check and cast mending...that poor character now has glass from a healing potion permanently stuck in his throat and he can't speak. The healing that he needed was negated by the nat 20 on the smashing of the potion. I am pretty sure I messed part of it up but I couldn't stop laughing long enough to think so we just went with it.

Make him responsible for them. Players hate consequences of their actions.
If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
My players just derailed a planned RP session by starting a dance party to distract a gang of wererats while a drunk old man blows up their den.
Sounds like that went well.

since dragon eggs are fragile, have some random npc(who is a badie in disguise) break the eggs and then enter combat with the PCs
Ooh. He’s gonna love that.

I was running a Marvel campaign. By the end, they had stolen vibranium from Wakanda, murdered pepper pots, and broken out of the RAFT
Uh oh.

Some of my players tried to retreat in every battle that they think is difficult, but easier than it looks like.
They don't do that as much currently now they find common sense and realized something called XP and getting stronger.
