Shapechanger. The mimic can use its action to polymorph into an object or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Adhesive (Object Form Only). The mimic adheres to anything that touches it. A Huge or smaller creature adhered to the mimic is also grappled by it (escape DC 13). Ability checks made to escape this grapple have disadvantage.
False Appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
Grappler. The mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.
Actions
Pseudopod.Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the mimic is in object form, the target is subjected to its Adhesive trait.
Bite.Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.
Swallow. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, the target must be already subjected to its Adhesive trait. It is then inside of the mimic and is restrained. It will take 3 (1d4 + 1) Acid damage every turn. Only one creature can be swallowed at a time The creature can make DC 17 Dexterity saving throws until it escapes. Once escaped, the character is prone. The character may also escape if the Mimic is killed.
Description
The mercantile mimic is a type of mimic that has adapted to a humanoid form. It maintains the form of a wandering merchant, luring humans by waling aimlessly around areas of towns before suddenly waling towards the woods. When it is out of sight of the town, the humans following it are eaten by a mouth that appears on its back.

today i took a look at your homebrewery sir, and it was far behind. so would you mind if I helped by (1) moving it onto a much more versatile platform and (2) trying to update it regularly for you?
Yeah, porting over the mimics I homebrew here to the homebrewery is sort of a backburner project. In general, I usually only crank out mimics between projects or to commemorate something specific.
If you would to port them to a more convenient media you are certainly welcome to do so. I only ask that I get a link/look at it, and that if you plan to share that you not charge for it, as I intended the monsters I spun up here to be free resources.
Q&A: things I have been asked that I feel answering in public might be to everyone's benefit.
Q: Can I use your [insert mimic here] for my game? A: Yes. Please do, by all means. If I didn't want people using them, I wouldn't make them publicly available.
Q: If I use your mimics, do you want me to credit you? A: It would be nice, but isn't necessary. I didn't invent the concept of the mimic, nor did I invent any of the objects one can impersonate.
Q: Why haven't there been any new mimics recently? Is this project dead? A: The Mimicromnicon/Mimic Book of Mimics is a side project that I work on and update infrequently. In addition to this project, I'm also working on my own campaign setting, playing one campaign, DM'ing another. And that's just D&D. I'm also active duty navy, meaning sometimes I'm not home... or even in my own country. And since there's limited space aboard ship, and bringing it merely increases the chances something bad will happen to it, I leave my computer and materials at home. When I'm not deployed, I'm senior personnel, meaning I'm often staying late to handle affairs with (or for) my junior guys. When I do finally get home, I am a married father of two.
tl;dr: The project isn't dead, it just isn't the biggest focus in my life.
Q: What do you think of this mimic I made? What would you say if I used a mimic to do X in my campaign? A: If you're running a game, and you made that monster for your campaign: I automatically think its great. If not in execution, than at least in spirit: you have decided to innovate to improve your players' experience in your world, and that it what's really important. I will gladly look at any mimic anyone makes. If asked, I will provide critiques and feedback. But what I have to say isn't all that important. I'm not the one running your game; my approval or disapproval has little impact on that. I'm happy to help where I can, but what I offer are tips and suggestions, not instructions on how things must be done.
Q: I don't really like the way you did this mimic; could you change it? A: I could, but probably won't: I publish a mimic when I'm happy with it, which often means a lot of rewrites as it is. If it's something like a type-o, blatant redundancy, or some other clerical issue: maybe. Otherwise, if you feel something should be changed, you are more than welcome to copy the mimic in question and make the desired changes to suit your needs. When I publish a mimic, it's an example of how I would do it. They are not intended to be the definitive end-all-be-all for mimics imitating a particular object, just inspirational homebrew.
Q: Why does this mimic you made do [insert action/trait]? A: Because.
Q: That's not really an answer, can you give me something more substantial? A: Yes.
Q: Okay, what is it? A: Hot chocolate.
Q: That really didn't answer my question. A: ... or did it?
DM: Okay, good to know. ... The room convulses as terrifying hoards of pale eyes and bloodied mouths open out of every object in the room, including the very room itself.

I love this idea in theory. But then you get the players who just decide to swing at the door and fight the mimic rather than take any other option that might be a minor inconvenience
It depends on how much you want to homebrew as the DM. https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-L9zV7_eIrs3bqQ_cNd5 is a great reference for monster looting giving DC's and skill checks based on the type of monster. Although even they state the mimic has no loot. To my understanding Lore wise mimics like changelings and doppelgangers are shape shifters consciously shifting their body texture and form. Once they die they become an amorphous mass of gray tissue with not much to loot. And even then their acid saliva is probably still present so looting it would be dangerous if the acid doesn't just dissolve the dead mimic from the inside out. Because the mimic also gets around by consciously adhering and detaching from things once its dead I don't know if the adhesive would work anymore.
Mimics move by consciously excreting and then diluting their adhesive; the process of turning their adhesive on and off is conscious, not the adhesive itself. Otherwise, the adhesive property would state that the property no longer functions if the mimic is knocked unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise has the ability to make decisions deprived from it. From a roleplay perspective, I've specifically play it from the angle that turning the adhesive off is a conscious process; else the default state of the mimic is sticky.
I've always homebrewed it that a mimic's adhesive stays sticky until a solvent is applied (which they also happen to produce and excrete to turn their adhesive "off"). I've also pushed that players could use it as an ingredient when they try to craft sovereign glue. In the raw, you could rule a mimic's adhesive works as a liquid adhesive that never dries (like post-it note glue), using the mimic's Adhesive's DC (13) for the Strength check DC to separate things that have been stuck together.
As far as treasure goes, I've also always played my mimics as previously successful hunters, who accrue the gear and treasure of previous victims. Nothing too powerful; since adventurers with great gear probably wouldn't fall prey to one.
Is there any more information on Boxxy? I'm attempting to have him make an appearance in a quest for my players and a character sheet would be phenomenal.
There is. I'd been sitting on it for a long while because I tried to convert as many of Boxxy's abilities to 5e terms as possible and was afraid I was missing something. I told myself I'd share it if someone ever specifically asked for it.

I would totally back a book of mimics kickstarter if that is something you would consider doing
I love this idea in theory. But then you get the players who just decide to swing at the door and fight the mimic rather than take any other option that might be a minor inconvenience
So, how does a mimic look like outside of object form ?
Hoes long does the adhesive property last after it's dead ?
If players wanted to harvest the body and re-use it for adhesive types of traps and shenanigans, how would you rule that ?
