I am making an intensely paranoid NPC who has a teleportation circle in his basement which, if used, triggers glyphs of warding which will destroy his home and everyone in it.
I am looking for good spells for the glyphs to house. I had considered the stone pillars spell (I forget the name) to destroy the floor and then fireball to get through the new gaps.
Whirlwind also sounds fun for this - rip the roof off and blow everyone away.
My current thought is that it casts Leomund's Tiny Hut around him when he activates them, and then whirlwind inside the building to eject unwanted guests. He then dons his armour or teleports away from inside the hut, depending on his situation. Having a glyph of warding the Leomund's Tiny Hut sounds very much like a doomsday prepper plan!
That sounds fine so far. Fireball is always good for self destruct, Bones of the earth seems like it could sufficiently work too. You could always flavor spells differently and make them do Force damage, and maybe the whirlwind spell will make multiple whirlwinds, so as to cover the entirety of the floorplan for that house.

Would love to hear of other ideas for this!

You could also have the main villain acquire a spell scroll of contingency, and upon his death, he casts fireball centered on himself.

Shatter (upcast even) could do the trick. Place the glyphs next to or even on support beams and pillars.
You could always DM fiat an Earthquake spell in it. NPC's don't necessarily have to follow the rules of players.
I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
