Aerisi Kalinoth is a boss in Princes of the Apocalypse with a cr of 7. However, she only has 66 health and an AC of 16. This puts her at a defensive cr of 1, according to an online calculator, and it seems like the players could defeat her within 2 rounds by the time the reach her. Does anyone have some insight of why this is and/or how to adjust her stats so she is a difficult boss?
I'm trying to remember what level the party was when I ran PotA. They did air Node after killing earth and fire prophet. This was a few years ago, but I think it was 10.
I think I added some extra elementals and the main dude from the tower, because they didn't manage to kill him the other 2 times. Ah, Thurl Merosska how you plagued them.
She can unload a Chain Lightning and Cloudkill or Lightning Bolt. She is a damage threat, and she has Legendary resistances. You can modify her hitpoints to give her at least 2 rounds. Her maximum hitpoints would be 108.
She's never presented alone, so you can throw a caster with Counterspell or Silvery barbs in her group depending on where she is encountered. You can give Aerisi Absorb Elements as a spell option, which makes her tougher against magic.
If I ran PotA, I would change the Air Cult to be the most helpful group. In fact, have the Air Cult seek out the party and question them most closely, 1 member remaining in the air circling. Evil is at the Stone Monastery and they are quite willing to hand out a map and give rides but their focus is on gathering information. They are still recovering from trying to take the fight to the Stone monks, but are willing to aid allies in their fight against the Evil of the Stone monks. They got one member of the trade mission out, Sir Not in Book was dispatched with her 5 days ago. We don't expect Sir Not back for another 3 days.
And give the party a level for successfully making "allies". They're going to need it...
I looked at her offensive capabilities, and they're absolutely insane. Keeping in mind that the party is expected to be at level 6, it is likely they will die from chain lightning round one. Overall, this seems like the fight will be over within 3 rounds, either in the players' or her favor.
