One forum I'm on will pop up a notification if you try to necro a thread that hasn't had a new post in at least three months. Really cuts down on the number of people who try to have conversations with someone who quit using that forum two years ago.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Necroposting used to be against site rules here and the Mods would wag their e-fingers at the poster and lock the thread. Then they changed the rules and that is no longer frowned upon.
Hadn't even heard of necroposting until now. I commented because the topic -- roleplaying going too far -- is more relevant than ever. I'll try to observe the etiquette in the future.
Honestly at the end of the day, you aren't here to entertain your players. This is cooperative story telling, if everyone isn't having fun maybe a discussion needs to happen. Or, if nothing happens, maybe this isn't a group you want to DM for anymore. Just something to think about.
