I haven't read either book in full detail yet, but I was wanting to know what were some interesting character hooks that you could come up with to have your PCs invested in the story as a part of their history.
For example, I know the Cassalanters are villains in Dragon Heist, so maybe one of the characters is a black sheep of the Cassalanters and has returned to Waterdeep. As I said, I haven't read it in depth yet, so I don't know if this hook would be problematic for plot purposes.
The Cassalanter hook you describe is.... problematic. It’s doable, but that PC would have to be younger than 9 years old in order to work with the story as written.
Also, it’s likely that if a PC is personally connected with a villain, your players might decide to double cross each other.
I’m not going to interject any more of my own thoughts into this, as W:DH can go in so many directions, and I’m personally biased to running it by the book and as a strict co-op campaign. I’ll just say that my characters went for the Nobility or Faction route, and it’s been a great campaign so far.
