Hello all! I'm a relatively new dm creating my first homebrew world and campaign. I'm looking for some free software or website where I can randomly generate world/settlements but hopefully still be able to edit to some degree. I know some features I want to be in my world and cities/towns ect. But I'm not visually artistic or good with geography type stuff so I was hoping to find somewhere that could generate a world map for me, and then allow me to add in my edits, like a massive crevasse in the main continent that goes from the ocean to the center of the land mass. Any sites that can help me in creating my map is greatly appreciated!
My technique is to take a real world map with pretty solid colors, then use MS Paint to modify it. It has been working out pretty well. My map key is as simple as mountains, forests, swamp, river, road. Which is just brown triangle, green triangle, red downward arrow, blue line, grey line.
One great method I saw is This. Basically write a geographical landmark or terrain for each side of each die (Nat 20 is capital, 12 on a D12 is regional capitals, 7-8 on any dice is mountains, etc.) and throw a bunch of dice on a paper. Draw the outline, and mark of appropriate terrain.

"What do you mean I get disadvantage on persuasion?"
I don't know, Sneet, maybe because your argument is "Submit and become our pet"?
That's actually a really interesting method. I wouldn't let the dice decide things like cities and towns cause I wanna do that, but topography and such would be cool. Plus it helps create the shape more. I do still wanna find a good online site to create the map on. I'm much better with a mouse and keyboard then my own hands. XD
