Potentially dumb idea, but wanted to put it out the just for fun. Imagine as like, for an experimental game, you allowed your players to choose any subclass for whatever class they picked?
Naturally this wouldn't work out for subclasses designed around core class features like ki points or sneak attack, so you wouldn't want to do this with inexperienced players who don't realize that, but I'd be even more interested in seeing what weird, unpredictable ways combos do synergize.
I feel like regardless of what bad combos might exist, there could be a lot of cool ones, like Horizon Walker Fighter, Battlemaster Monk, Divine Soul Wizard...
I love the concept, I'm not sure how much it would work in practice lol I could go down the line and find the class-agnostic subclasses and see which ones could be moved over. Then the ones with certain class features, I'm sure you could swap it around to make it work.

Yeah, it would be very kooky and experimental. Finding out what weirdly works or hilariously doesn't, I imagine, would be half the fun

What do you think, is this something or nothing?

It would be interesting to try and swap monk and barbarian subclasses by changing the "while raging" to spending ki points and seeing what comes out.
