I've been running an Olympic style event in my campaign, and the event that my players (Lvl 8) have been interested in the most is a team fight tournament. They are currently in the finals match, and they have had a fight in a caged ring (Prelims).
- A field with multiple environments [forest, flaming temple, pond, sand pit, and forest] (Quarters).
- And a stadium filled with 2 dozen large stone pillars, with a pyramid in the center (Semi).
And finally 2 days ago we had the finals, and this one I had prepared a series of floating islands in the sky, that would randomly ascend and descend every round. This was meant to be a traversal issue, and have a threat of being pushed off. But during the fight, I noticed they were getting frustrated, and not having fun. And after a conversation they told me that while they liked the floating islands idea, they weren't thrilled about the fact that the enemies had clear movement advantages over the group (flying spells, teleportation spells, levitation), and the fact that there was no way for them to get back once they fell (there were wizards below waiting to feather fall them). After the discussion I gave them the opportunity to restart the fight with the advice, and criticisms they gave me. So, what I am asking for is an idea for a map that I can prepare for next week. I'm hoping for something that you can run around in, while being a little complicated to use all your walking movement in.
TLDR; Need a battlemap idea for an arena fight. It can restrict walking speeds a bit and cannot be floating islands, area full of pillars and a pyramid, a field with a forest..., or a cage match.
If you want to make your own here are a few tools I use: Wonderdraft, Dungeondraft. But there are several more out there that are quite good. One of those is quite expensive (3x more than Wonderdraft), and the other you don't own the rights to your creations (it can get expensive quickly too). Also, any graphics editor worth its salt can be used to edit a plain terrain "battlemap" image to add features. Good luck!
OH, before I forget, you can also do a Google Image search for "arena battlemap". I just looked and there are a ton out there. Maybe one will work for you.

Take them out to the arena. Or take to the arena something 'from the outside' Check Dyson Logos' maps, there are the one I like most. A tower, a piece of a village, anything

Thank you for anyone willing to lend a hand.
