So I am trying to create some optional repeatable choices for an origin level based choices, ex. a stat or feat choice at certain levels. I can get the choice to show up at the levels I want, but I can't get the options to show after I have chose them once. This would be very easy if I could add options within an option for the racial trait, in the fact the whole thing would be much easier to create if I could add options in an option. Wondering if anyone knows how to accomplish this without making 30 or more highly complex traits to work in conjunction with each other.

I am trying to create origin options to make a dragonborn origin story where delving into your draconic heritage unlocks the characters true draconic power.

Do you mean variant? I would have the same issue even if I go variant, going subclass negates the entire race. It would mean i would have to create a subclass for every single class.

no I said subclass this sounds like the already existing subclass draconic origin exactly as described.
As I said if i go subclass and want it to be a completely fleshed out origin for someone who chooses the race, I would have to create a subclass for every Class.
I think that extending that into a full class is a terrible idea that disrupts the balance. If you are the DM, extending this to a single race is unfair. If you are a player, you are seeking to overpower yourself.

But the entire concept already exists as a subclass.
The way I am trying to make the origin story and options makes it so the DM is always in control of what you are able to get. Even though the player gets the options I am trying to add a method which makes it so its extremely hard and time consuming for a player to get the benefit of all origin bonuses. At the same time trying to give the player options so each time they play the race and origin it can be a unique play no matter if they pick same dragon color and class. If a player forgets or fails even one daily check they lose their progress on gaining the ability, bonus or feat, also making it so they can't get multiple things from one source. I want it so it's more of a 50/50 relationship between the DM and the player.
Provide link or name of the subclass, subclass means you are that class no option in whether you want to be a different class. The whole concept you are telling me is extremely limited and prevents you from playing a class you want to play more so you have to mutli class.
Regardless of if people think you should do it or not (which shouldn’t become an argument, especially in a help thread), it is currently impossible to make a race that gives anything besides spells at later levels than one.

This sounds more like a subclass then a race

My only good homebrews: Races, Subclasses.
An aspiring DM and Homebrewer. Ask me if you need anything.
