So during my last session I had this idea for the party to find the remains of a previous group of adventurers in their journey that fell in battle One of the items I came up with for them to find was the previous parties bag of holding, with the twist that it was partially filled already, only they don't know what so can't just empty it out. They can stick their hand in the bag and think of an item and have a chance of finding it.
"Other than being well used and travel worn, this is a normal bag of holding. Uniquely though, it was recovered from the body of a deceased adventurer so is partially filled already. Since taking something out of a bag of holding requires knowing what the thing is and placing ones hand inside and thinking the thing, no one has been able to empty the bag as of yet. It is estimated that the bag holds roughly 800 pounds (out of its 5,000 pound max weight) items at the moment.
As an action a player can stick their hand in the bag and think of an item and have a chance that there exists in the bag that item. The DM determines whether the item exists in the bag and what quantity/quality/condition exist. At the DM's discretion, if the player tries to retrieve something that doesn't exist in the bag, they can retrieve a similar or related item if it could be reasonably assumed one would also have the other item in mind while thinking about the requested item."
The issue I am having is creating it as a homebrew. I created a new item, using the bag of holding as the template, but it doesn't let me change the container characteristics and when I add it to an inventory it treats it s an item, not a container. I had the party add a regular bag of holding to their inventory and used the customize option to adjust the weight and add the mystery items to take up the weight, so its not an issue for my players, but I thought it was a pretty cool idea and one i hadn't seen before so wanted to publish and share the Second Hand Bag of Holding to the community but I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
Not to sound like a Debbie Downer but looking thru all the commits about issues in the Homebrew section that date back to 2017 that still have never been resolved, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Homebrew containers are not currently possible.
