I'm making a homebrew race that's a variant of a Tabaxi. It's like a normal Tabaxi, but instead of a housecat or wildcat, it's like a displacer beast. The racial traits and stuff are mostly the same apart from a few extras, including the ability to make attacks with its tentacles and displace light. I'm trying to add Displacement as a racial trait, but I'm not sure how.
Here's the description of Displacement from the Displacer Beast's stat block:
"The displacer beast projects a magical illusion that makes it appear to be standing near its actual location, causing attack rolls against it to have disadvantage. If it is hit by an attack, this trait is disrupted until the end of its next turn. This trait is also disrupted while the displacer beast is incapacitated or has a speed of 0."
I tried adding it as a spell, but I couldn't find a way to make attacks against it have disadvantage, or have it get disrupted when it's attacked, incapacitated, or with 0 speed. I also tried adding a modifier to fix the disadvantage thing, but those modifiers only seem to apply to the character itself, not another character making attacks against it.
Does anyone know how I should go about doing this?
Sorry if this is unclear... I'm not great at explaining things.
You would just enter it as plain text. The character sheet doesn’t actually interact with anything else, so there’s nothing you can add to it that would automatically apply disadvantage to anything else’s attacks. The player just has to remind the DM to attack with disadvantage.
I will also point out that trait is ridiculously overpowered for a player race, especially when added on top of everything else a Tabaxi gets. I would recommend against this trait.
