I tired to make a half-elf variant, that focused more on the elf part, which was supposed to have +2 Dex (instead of the +2 Cha) and increase two abilities of your choice by 1. the issue i ran into was when i made the modifiers i selected ''bonus'' and ''choose an ability score'' with the variable 1... however when i tried to use this homebrew of mine it didn't let me choose from ALL of the ability scores, i was unable to pick charisma and i even checked how they did it with the half-elves. not only was it done the same way, but as a regular not homebrew half-elf i was able to have +4 in Charisma (+2 from race and i could even chose charisma twice due to ''of your choice'').
since this character is intended for private use i can work around it, but it is really off-putting tbh.
I couldn't figure out how to do this for items or weapons. Nothing happens when I choose it. My solution was to make six of the same item and have the players choose from there.

didn't look into the homebrew-builder for a while, but with tasha's I can make these changes way easier
