I am working on a new set of Outer Planes or my own Homebrew Campaign, reworking some existing ones, replacing some and removing some entirely. I was wondering if moving the Feywild from being an echo Plane of the Prime Material Plane, to the Outer Planes would have any negative impact on the mechanics? Any spells allow travel to and from the Feywilds, but wouldn''t if they were relocted to the Outer Planes? Anything in the mechanics that specifically link the Feywild and the Ethereal Plane, for example? Thanks :)
You can only go to a plane that is connected to the plane you are on. Plane classification is based on the relation of a plane to other planes. Transitive planes for instance are called such because they connect to many, many other planes. Ethereal and Shadowfell are transitive planes.

Hi there, thanks for responding :) From what I understand, the Ethereal Plane connects to the Inner Planes, while the Astral Plane connects the Outer Planes. My question was if I were to create a new World Model, and have the Feywild be an Outer Plane in the Astral Sea, are there any spells, or basic mechanics that that descision would contradict? Like a spell that certifies that the Feywild is connected to the Ethereal Plane, or a Class/Subclass/Race that has an origins that could not work with the Feywilds placed in the Astral Sea?
As far as I'm aware, the Astral Sea no longer exists. It was only a 4e thing. Basically what happened was that the Astral Plane turned into the Astral Sea and incorporated outer planes while the inner planes aka elemental planes became the elemental chaos. The events leading up to 5e "fixed" all of that and we're now back in the Great Wheel cosmology, just with the elemental chaos being this weird crossing point for the elemental planes.
Astral is transitive, yes, but the Astral Sea is no longer a thing. In the Great Wheel, Astral is (or was) transitive between the prime material and the outer planes. The Ethereal is like a mirror image of the Material, but you're either material or ethereal, they're opposites. The Ethereal allowed the creation of demiplanes, and the Feywild and Shadowfell are made up of what once were ethereal demiplanes. Feywild and Shadowfell are transient between material and ethereal, but act similarly to the material (Abeir-Toril).
It's really confusing and I'm sure someone else could explain it better, but the general idea is that we're in the Great Wheel cosmology again and its logic applies, but the elemental chaos exists somewhat, and the Shadowfell and Feywild remain the same as in 4e. That's why the demiplanes of dread and the plane of shadow are still just the Shadowfell now - and basically their lands can be found somewhere on the Shadowfell world map.

Shouldn’t be a problem. I’m pretty sure it’s mentioned in the DMG, but all you really need for the mechanics to work is a place for elementals, fey and fiends to be summoned from/banished to, a way for spells and monsters that use the Astral and Ethereal plane to work (nothing I can think of necessarily links the Feywild or it’s location in the multiverse to either), and probably somewhere for souls to go when something dies.

I did some further research on this.
The Feywild and Shadowfell are connected to the Ethereal Plane just like the Prime Material (Toril) is. The Ethereal is also connected to the Elemental Planes aka Inner Planes. The Astral Plane connects the Prime Material to the Outer Planes (afterlives).
Feywild and Shadowfell are "echos" or "parallels" to Toril. They're still material planes. Material planes connect to both ethereal and astral. Ethereal connects to the Inner Planes, while Astral connects to the Outer Planes.
Regarding other crystal spheres, I have no clue whether they count as just separate material planes or if they're completely disconnected from Realmspace cosmology.
Thanks, Rezilia, I was more looking for the mechanics of the game, rather than the lore, since I'm creating my own lore for my Homebrew campaign, but I appreciate your help and research :)
By the way, in the canon souls go to the Fugue Plane. Then from there to the outer planes, or the Faithless are trapped in the Wall of the Faithless. Evil Faithless souls are scraped off by fiends and made into more fiends.

Thanks, Acme, this helped a lot, in regard to the mechanics of the game :)
