What would you think of an addendum to cohesion that allows you to gain a point back at the cost of 1d10 force damage. Then 2d10 the next time, etc. I'm not sure it needs it, but I thought it might be interesting to allow a chatacter to literally push themselves past "cohesion," in a pinch.
should it just be whatever the weapon was, or could it be force damage without being too much?). Would that outshine the Battle Master's maneuvers, do you think?
Those are good points.
I personally prefer the Battle Master to the Arcane Archer because they get to do cool stuff more often (4-6 times/Short Rest). The Archer gets to do more awesome stuff, but less often (2ce/SR).
Maybe if this were somewhere in between? Maybe 2 Cohesion/SR to start with at 3rd level, but then they gain an additional Cohesion at 7th and again at 10th level bringing their total up to 4 Cohesion? If you’re gonna do that I think 3d4 is okay.

That could be cool. Maybe this could be something they do 1ce per Long Rest.
Okay, there's a list of 11 Strides on the op. I figured I'd make it 3 at level 3 instead of 2, like the archer, and then added 1 at levels 7, 10, 15, and 18. So, basically the same as the archer, but you're starting with 1 more option.
Not bad. I think it still might need a little combat punch with some extra damage when you use a cohesion, and that the use should generally trigger, or trigger off of Attacks. But otherwise this is looking pretty interesting, to me at least. What I think you need now are some other opinions and some playtesting to see what works, what doesn’t, and what needs adjustments. And definitely a couple passes to clean up the language.
I could have swore I added a bit about a damage boost into the description. Not sure where that went xD It's supposed to say, "When you spend a point of cohesion, your next attack deals an additional 3d4 force damage. This lasts until the beginning of your next turn." So, it would still work on reaction attacks.
So, do you think that the Strides that don't involve attacks should have them, or just that the ones that don't involve attacks shouldn't give you bonus damage? If not, I think I have all the mechanics where I want them until they get some testing.
I was saying that in my opinion something like that 3d4 would only be on that next attack (just like Archer and Battle Master) but something like Formless Stride or Micro Stride would happen after the attack with the extra 3d4. That way you get both the benefit of the Bonus Action, and the additional damage all for the same Cohesion point. Something like:
”You may spend a point of Cohesion to have your next Attack deal an additional 3d4 damage of the weapon’s type. You may then immediately take the Dash action as a bonus action.”
But I see what you were saying, something more like:
“As a bonus action you may spend 1 Cohesion to Dash as part of the same Bonus Action. Until the start of your next turn the next attack you make deals an additional 3d4 damage if it hits.”
So that’s really a matter of preference.
On thing to point out, make sure if you want something like Great Weapon Fighting Style to work on the 3d4. If you write “you deal an additional...” it won’t, if you write “the attack deals an additional...” then it will.
Ah, I gotcha. I think I'll give it a try with the latter method and see how it pans out.
Ah, I didn't realize that! I was imagining that the damage was a magical aftershock, so maybe things like great weapon fighter shouldn't apply? Or, do you think it would make more sense to change it so that those kinds of abilities do apply? From a balance perspective, I mean. Also, as it is now, it does 3d4 force damage. Should I change that to be damage of the weapon's type, do you think?

Yeah, I think I like the idea of it landing between the two.
Cool! Yeah, 1/day makes sense.

I think at this point you’re down to the questions you start to sort out through playtesting.
