Anyone got house rules for if a player uses the Earthquake spell while their on the open ocean? How would it work if a player targeted an enemy vessel? How would it work if they targeted something under the water?
Tsunamis! Large magnitude (7.5 and above) earthquakes on the sea floor creates displacement of large quantities of water that turn into ocean waves that travel between 373–497 miles per hour. In the open ocean, a tsunami might only cause a fluctuation in water level of a foot. It's only when the wave approaches shore that a tsunami forms into the towering wave.
The spell earthquake specifies the point of origin to be a point on the ground that you can see. In open ocean, you would have to be on the sea floor to cast earthquake. If casting it on an enemy ship, I would rule that you will be unable to cast it as there is no earth to quake.
