I'm running my group through tyranny of dragons. Gonna keep this in mind for the final battle. If I need to throw something truly insane at the group I just might pull out a fighter on the enemy's side built around this subclass.

That would be cool. Especially if they're a Half-Dragon and/or dragonborn.

Well, it looks like WotC and I had a fairly similar idea for a subclass, but their "dragon-rider" is a ranger subclass. Here's the new UA, and here's the thread for discussing it.
If anyone has any concerns about this draconic companion compared to the Drakewarden Ranger, I will clarify them. I may get to work on a second draft for this subclass soon. Thanks for your help so far!

You mean publishing it? I haven't finished it completely yet, as I am currently playtesting it. As soon as I feel like it's at an acceptable phase of balance, I will publish it on this site.

Pretty good, now just get rid of the worthless humanoid 😜
A dragon alone is adequate, and without the rider and all of its functions, you can restore the actual function of the dragon lol.
Ha. The humanoid isn't useless. There will be many cases where a person riding the draconic companion attacking with a longbow, lance, or heavy weapon will be more useful than having the dragon take one of your attacks.
The character isn't meant to play a dragon, it's meant to play a dragon rider. The character is merged in being with their mount, acting as one creature, but being two distinct ones. Kind of like the Archons from the M:tG books.

Hi amazing person who did this/is doing this! How is it going. I would really like to play that but can't find it in the DnD Beyond Hombrew. Haven't you published it yet. I would love to try it out. Would send you feedback of course. But I dont really have the time to build this on my own in the DnD Beyond Hombrew Creation Tool.
i think this is perfectly fine as is... just a bit confused as to why there's no spell casting when that is a thing in the inheritance cycle that dragon riders can do (as far as i remember since it's been years) not a huge gripe just seemed a bit off to me
Ohh my this subclass is very interesting, look forward to the final outcome... is slowly reading through the 3rd book of the series... but ohh my love the idea of the tattoo...
Sorry if this is a small spoiler... but warning ahead...
Not sure if it will make it too powerful, but perhaps when in the tattoo, or maybe more often, let them be able to share abilities like senses, not sure if I just remembering it from the movie or in the books, that Eragon see with the vision of the dragon for a short time. I know it is a buff of the character even further, but if it is when the dragon isn't physical around, I see no problem, but perhaps just me. I would just love the strengthening of the bond in a way.
Perhaps darkvision at 3rd level, then resistance at 7th, then blindsight at 15th level, maxing out with immunity at 18th. I don't see the problem of the dragon have them earlier, but it is more to show the progress of the bond between dragon and rider.

cool, but dragon rider would make a cool ranger.
I am an average mathematics enjoyer.

It could be a cool ranger subclass, but I think it fits better as a fighter, especially with its source material.

Sounds like a bad deal, here, take the humanoid, the dragon is the real attraction :3
. . . Isn't that the case for Beast Masters? Or Moon Druids?

Hello, Spellviz. I am well.
I am sorry, but this homebrew subclass has not been published and won't be until I feel that it is at a level of balancing that I find acceptable.

Do I have to use by writing a sheet or is there a way to use this on D&D beyond?
