Kosef looks at the Governor long enough to be sure both that nothing more is expected of him and that they will be acting under his direction. He is reassured to know he will be acting lawfully. "Let us rescue the priest Eadyan and as many others as possible then."
"Indeed, we shall bring your priest to you, Governor Nighthill." Glancing at Sir Evendur to continue to drive home the point he adds "while avoiding the dragon at all costs."
Escobert leads the way back down the stairs to an ironbound door. He takes a key from his key ring and opens the door. He has to struggle a bit to get the key to turn. He then says, "There is another gate at the end. You'll be wanting this key to open it up. Be careful with it, though. These doors require a fine touch, so as not to break the key. You should come out a little to the west of the temple, but following the river will take you nearby as well." He holds out the key for someone to take. "You're all good people to do this for us. Be careful out there."
Evendur, a bit less confident with the forthcoming skulking, uncharacteristically decides to let someone else, with a more gentle touch than his, handle the key.
"I suppose I better stay back a bit to not disclose our presence to our enemies when we approach the temple"he says in a somewhat subdued voice.
Valas takes the key from Escobert with a nod of understanding, but also looks to Kendes and Kipio with a slight shrug incase either is more confident with such things than he.
(OOC: A bit meta I'll admit but what Valas is trying to get across is that he has some well honed elven dexterity (+5) but no specific expertise with locks / sleight of hand, etc.)
Kendes coughs into his hand, looking uncomfortable. "I've... got no equipment with me, but I have been known to find my way around a tough lock now and then. Keys notwithstanding," he mumbles, rubbing the back of his neck.
(OOC: Kendes has a +4 to dex and proficiency with Thieves' Tools... but no Thieves' Tools :P )
With a small smile Valas hands the key to Kendes. "Excellent. One thing I've been trying to convince my father of for years is that working with those outside of our own realm would bring in all kinds of new, in this case, 'talents'!"
"... I'll do my best," Kendes mumbles, feeling awkward and incompetent around the loud and, in his opinion, very flashy elven man. Regardless, he does take the key, grasping it carefully in his hands. "Peoples' lives are at stake here... we all have to do our best."
Kosef, worried about his ability to stumble at exactly the wrong time, will hang back behind his more dextrous colleagues. "I'm not a very subtle person, sometimes," he says. He'll duck down into the tunnel after the others, thinking about enclosed spaces and how they impede a good blade's swing.
Kipio tucks behind Kosef as he enters the tunnel, "I'm not above skulking in the darkness, but I am not as light of foot as when I was younger." He looks around examining his companions to see if they have any major wounds from their earlier battles.
"It's only a scratch," Kendes replies as he looks at his wounds. Only a scratch - even a few of those could be deadly, though. He shakes his head. "If we need to rest and recover before we begin, we should do it now, rather than expend our resources. We might need them against whatever we run into later on."
(OOC: if anyone needs healing, I think we should take a short rest first, not use abilities or slots)
"Yes brave Kendes, but we should make haste to the temple, there is no telling what atrocities the cultists are planning there"
Evendur enters the tunnel after Kendes and Valas, using a torch if necessary.
(OOC: Evendur is down to 7/11 but he´ll live, hopefully, and is clearly eager to go and rescue some townsfolk. Also he has 5 pts of Lay on hands if someone drops)
Kendes looks to the others to see their decision. If everyone seems to be unified about moving on, he will begin to progress down the tunnel as stealthily as he can. This is much more familiar to him that the heat of the battle above; he allows himself to fall into familiar patterns, imagining this as conducting an ordinary delivery with his father, rather than a desperate rescue mission to save the remaining townsfolk. Blocking out his worries and fears allows him to concentrate on doing exactly as Valgas had taught him - stepping softly, and keeping to the shadows.
The tunnel is narrow and filled with cobwebs. Several yards in there is a collection of debris with a few rats scurrying around it. Their glowing red eyes fix on you, except for Kendes who they fail to notice.
"Begone!" Evendur says in a lowered voice, holding forth his burning torch to scare the rats on their way. If only Master Frume could see him now, gloriously fending off rats in a secret tunnel. He hoped they would reach the surface soon, he was not yet comfortable with this skulking business.
The rats retreat back into their nest, watching the torch warily. The tunnel ends with an iron grate which is similar to a sewer outlet. The lock is a little corroded.
"Hmm," Kosef says. "Thank you, Kipio, but I think I am well enough to continue." He is not comfortable here. Narrow, dark places. No room to move. Rats he is familiar with from the city. They are a common sight around the docks, even during the day and even on rooftops.
Kosef hopes the end of the tunnel is close and follows the others.
Kipio gives a nod, his companions they are tougher than he even first thought. Kipio looks around disappointed that no one else seemed like resting in the tunnels, "Feels a little bit like home, there's even the same kind of rats," he says quietly.
Valas doesn't say much but is clearly disgusted by the rat infested areas, doing his best to touch as little as possible while passing through those parts of the tunnel. To Kipio's comment he replies "you and I must be from very different places, brave Kipio."

"Indeed, we shall bring your priest to you, Governor Nighthill." Glancing at Sir Evendur to continue to drive home the point he adds "while avoiding the dragon at all costs."
The squire walks up behind Sir Evendur and speaks softly but still hearable.
"Listen to the elf milord, he speaks wisely. Remember Master Frumes teachings milord, there is nothing disgraceful in caution."
""Oh, I don´t seem to recall that particular lesson brave Randal. It´s good of you to remind me of these things"
