Zenodor chips into the conversation: "Wherever these people set up their homes - be it by fields or a wharf - we should make sure it is in an easily defensible location. For a farm, perhaps a small hill surrounded by flat land. For a wharf, perhaps a bay surrounded by cliffs." He begins talking to the soldiers and villagers about likely locations and requirements.
Just for clarity: "is not large but neither is it small. ". That's very relative. How many hours/days would it take to travel East to West or North to South? It is an island small enough where we could set up guard posts (with signal flags or fires) around the shore to keep an eye on the whole coast (and maybe inland too?) Or are is there a significant hinterland worth weeks of travel with unexplored realms? Is the island mainly flat, or like a central mountain/volcano? Also, what kind of climate did we land in? Jungles? Northern Tundra? Desert Island? Temperate?
You have landed on the West coast of the Island. It takes roughly between 2 or 3 days to cross North to South and 4 days to cross West to East. Most of the island is flat but there are some high hills. It's just North of the equator but does get seasonal weather, right now there is a light breeze blowing West to east.

Alright, I guess we as a party should at least scout the close surroundings, lets say an hour each way? to make sure we can safely start making camp before we head out a bit further in land to see what the best spot is to start the trading post (that was what we were planning to build, correct?)?

You all venture away from the beach heading inland to explore more of this island. It is a forested island for the most part, a few areas are sparse or have no trees, but there's not that many places like that.

Petcan will help look for an ideal settlement location
(What information did we get from Mynash, Reeves, the villagers, etc regarding type of location they would like to have?)

Mynash wanted to set up some sort of waystation/trading post on the island. The refugees, crew, and soldiers can handle their tasks but appreciate any help.
As you finish your scouting and are preparing to return to the beach you hear some of soldiers shouting from nearby, "Hello!"
"Hail! What's the danger!"
"Shout if you can hear us!"
"Hang on! We're coming to help!"

These are some of the soldiers from the beach, two soldiers and two archers to be specific, and they are looking for all of you as you return from scouting. They have not seen you through the trees yet but are getting closer. Whatever the supposed danger is, it is clear they believe you all are the ones who need help.

The soldiers are relieved that you all appear alright and unharmed. They point behind you at a large column of smoke rising over the canopy, thin enough to not be a forest fire or anything of that sort but a fire none the less. It appears to be coming from the far side of the island, roughly 4 days travel.

Yes, no problem. The Imp can take a couple of days. No need for it to exhaust itself. Zonodor is a benevolent master afterall.

Either way, Zenodor is joining the scouting party.

First, Zenodor asks the Soldiers "Why did you think that we were in distress and needed help?"
Then he volunteers himself (and the rest of the party?) as a scouting party to investigate.
