Tempe looks on and states "That sounds like a good Idea Pepin, but let me look instead." If they agree he uses one of his wild shape and summons a quipper as a familiar in the water and goes into it senses. Bait swims as far as he can not leaving more than a hundred feet from Tempe's mind, then looks at what the monster or whatever the creature is while keeping in swimming step, with the ship.

In any case, Zenodor is not keen on being grappled and dragged below by tentacles).
Zenodor observes the creature through his familiar's eyes. After a while, he snaps back to himself.
"We best brace for a fight. Captain: Any crew not needed to keep the ship afloat or defend it should take shelter below decks!"
After pondering the tentacles for a moment longer he adds: "I fear I would fare poorly in a wrestling contest with such a beast. Perhaps best to remain out of range."
Zenodor then flies up into the air above the ship with the idea of staying outside of tentacle-grabbing range.

ooc: @Brian If this thing is climbing on the ship, can I cast spike growth on the outer hull of the ship? Bottom and sides of course.
@Zenodor we could probably talk to this if it is a Kraken but if it is a Kraken it is a monstrosity not an animal. This is most likely an Aberration ether way Unless its a giant octopus
”Whoever is going to fight it up close, let me give you some protection,” says Randall. He moves a bit towards the center of the boat for stability and casts Freedom of Movement on the first person to take him up on his offer (or on himself if there are no volunteers)

Pepin takes Randalls offer before diving into the water from the ship. Furthermore he uses his action to magically create a tiny eldtrich cannon (force balista) which is stuck to his armor on his shoulder and his BA to cast magic weapon on his warhammer; spellsmith ability, see below.
Initiative: 16
(Spellsmith: You know the mending cantrip. You can also cast the magic weapon spell with this trait. When you do so, the spell lasts for 1 hour and doesn’t require concentration. Once you cast the spell with this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells.)

Z flew up into the air above the ship before the Octopus attacked - so I would assume he doesn't get affected by the stopping of the ship anyway as he wouldn't be jolted from any deceleration (Dexterity check just in case I'm wrong: 15)

Pepin looks around himself in the water, looking for the face/head of the creature when he finds it he focusses on his amulet and a guiding bolt (3rd lvl) shoots out from it towards the creature.
Attack: 17 Damage: 25
As a bonus action he focusses on his force ballista to make an attack on the tentacle that he saw moving just now (T1) for damage and it is moved 5ft away from the cannon on a hit:
Attack: 14 Damage: 10
(Both attacks have a 120ft range so Pepin will stay at around that distance from the creature. He has freedom of movement spell on him and wears a cloak of the manta ray so has 60ft swimming speed)

Zenodor telepathically shouts at the creature "Leave this ship alone. We are not easy prey, and you will suffer great harm if you continue! Let me demonstrate"
He then casts Blight on the nearest tentacle (presumably the one that tried to grab him and is now wrapped around the mast).
Necrotic damage: 36 or half with successful CON DC 16 save
Tempe invests a ki, step of the wind(disengage) to avoid being attacked flying up to the mast. And as long as no one is in the mast that's being grappled by the tentacle he cast spike growth upon it.6 piercing damage for every 5 feet it travels.
"Stay off this mast or you'll be hurt by my spell!" Tempe shouts to everyone as he tries to move out of the range of the tentacles.
Moving forward towards the remaining tentacles, Randall tries to center himself near the mast and within 15 feet of as many tentacles as possible.
With Lightbringer bared and ready for combat, Randall calls on his most powerful magics and is suddenly surrounded by celestial spirits in a thirty foot diameter sphere. Though they avoid the crew and his allies, the spirits sear and burn the tentacles severely!
Casting Spirit Guardians at level 5, Causing 5d8 Radiant damage to each tentacle starting its turn or entering the sphere, Wisdom saving throw DC 17 for half damage,
“Begone creature of the sea, before you perish from our holy power!” he cries.

The Tentacle hits Pepin, but is a soft blow to the Armor that Pepin almost doesn't feel. After which he uses a bonus action to have the force balista attack the tentacle 1:
Attack: 14 Damage: 7 and the tentacle is pushed back 5ft on a hit.
After which another (lvl3) guiding bolt is sent into the creatures head (with advantage due to the previous one):
Attack: 18 Damage: 17
