“Birdie” will draw his rapier barbed net and, if there’s time, proceed to the door we anticipate to be kicked in any second and Ready an ambushing attack at the first enemy within range.

A voice echos from the hall:

The rush of boots freeze, and with a loud "CLANK," you feel four loud slams on the ground outside the door.

"Squad, prepare for breaching!"

With a mighty thud, a deep dent appears in the doorframe, popping one of the hinges clean off. They will be inside within seconds.

“Birdie” makes last second adjustments in positioning to be sure not to get brained by the door breaching and flex his grip and prepare to cast his net as he has thousands of times before.

With a second slam, the door flies off its hinges. Standing before you is a sharply-dressed man holding a handheld battering ram. He is in a gray uniform and black boots. Behind him are four massive spiked tower shields, surrounding the doorway in one continuous steel wall. Above each shield you see the shiny top of a helmet just barely poking over the shield. 

I know you are here! Show yourselves, pirates!

The man draws a shining revolver from his coat and steps into the room, blissfully unaware of Birdie and Gianna on either side of the doorway.

Birdie and Gianna may now roll for their Ready attacks with Advantage. 

Everyone may roll initiative.

(In the interest of hopefully speeding up this campaign a bit, I am going to try out something different. Instead of waiting for your turn based on initiative, everyone may write their turn when they please, and I will resolve the actions on a round-by-round basis. Hopefully this will eliminate or at least lessen the waiting days or weeks in between turns in combat.)

I know it has been a while since we discussed this homebrew net. The barbs cause 1 hp on hit as the barbs bite into flesh (or joints in constructs). It behaves as any other net except it can cause extra damage if strength is used to remove it. 1+(DC rolled - 10) minimum 1. The idea was that the more aggressively the net was removed, the more damage would be inflicted as the barbs bit in and tore flesh or mechanical joints of a construct.

 The net catches on the officer, digging into his chest and shredding his fine coat.

(As the casting of the net was a reaction, you still have your attack and bonus action.)

Seeing the officer draw the handgun changed “Birdie”’s strategy. If he is willing to discharge a weapon in this scenario, why shouldn’t I? He instantly draws his own pistol and quickly discharges two shots into the officer.

Through the two bullet holes in his coat, you can see the officer is wearing a thick leather vest underneath. It may have slowed the bullets, but he is still plenty wounded.

(Your call, boss. Were both of the captain’s attacks at disadvantage due to being restrained? @Team, as long as the net is in place, all attacks against the officer are with advantage. I don’t see that in the formulas above. I’ll try and remember to put reminders in my posts for things like this.)

I think I'll go ahead and reroll.
