We love a good gamer love story. You don't have to set up your character on there if you do not want to, I am really only using it to clarify locations for combat because theatre of the mind is a pain and I am not good at making excel spreadsheets.
I'll try getting my character today, though I will be busy until evening. Never used roll20 before so we'll see if I can manage, but it's probably not too difficult.
@FireCat5 I'll re-do the clarification from the DM just because it might seem confusing. We're only using the D&D Beyond character sheets. You'll barely need to do anything on Roll20 except open it to look at maps, it seems.
@All I know I'm very experienced with Roll20, and we're using the most basic things it can offer, but just the same, I'll gladly offer answers to questions anyone else might have.
I think we're ready to get started, unless anyone has any questions.
If you so desire, you can flesh out your character's backstory by using the Forgotten Realms Heroic Chronicle - just roll some dice on some tables and you can generate some flavor stuff like allies/rivals associated with your background, your home nation/town (if you do not just choose Waterdeep as your home), how many people are in your family (if any), and even a favorite food. There is an option for fateful moments, secrets, and prophecies, but for now I'd like to skip them - maybe we can revisit them later.
This is optional, so do not feel like you have to do it if you are too busy. You should be able to access the WIldemount guide through the content sharing for additional info.
I've already solved many of the Heroic Chronicles' proposed questions before knowing it was a thing. Cami's from Neverwinter and has 2 parents, with no actual siblings. It presents the option of sibling-likes, which I might as well do, along with allies and all the other questions.
Actually, I do have a question. Though, it's less a question and more just something that I want to be sure about. I have the spell Find Familiar that, to be cast, needs 10gp worth of materials. The Starting Equipment for my background gives me exactly 10gp. May I pay the gold now, and act like my familiar has been with me from the very start? I'll be holding 0 coins, but eh, I'll find more through the adventure.
Oh and as flavor I like the idea of the Eldritch Blast being in the shape of the spear and the final part of casting it is motioning like it is being thrown. If my Hex weapon at some point becomes a sword then it will be more like the way Fjord is shown to fire his from the pommel of his sword in Critical Role.
Oh and yeah as soon as Tanlen has enough gold he is gonna get himself a shield.

I'll allow you to start with your familiar and have your ten gold.
That's very kind. Mind if I use your kindness to ask if I can use that 10 gold beforehand to buy a shield? Then, I'll be stuck with no coins, but I'll ask for nothing else.
Sure thing - @ Darth, if you would like to do the same, you may.
Also if you guys could post/send me any art you'd like to use for your character token on Roll20, feel free. If you don't have a preference, I will just use some placeholder art for you.
My wife made this figure for me on Heroforge for Ianric. Unfortunately the closest thing they have to tribal tattoos are tiger stripes so just left that plain. Looking for something for a better idea of his tattoos while dinner is cooking.
Basically I'm thinking his tribe's tattoos are similar to Celtic tribal tattoos, and as such the above except expanded to full body is what I imagine kinda for his tattoos. Each of the claws having parts of it tattooed down his arms and legs, and the rest of the circular part being on his face and neck.
I'll get Ianric set up on there tomorrow. Actually met my now wife on a roll20 d&d game, haven't used it in a good while but it's fairly easy.

Exactly @Pertuie, it'll really just be used for moving pc and npc tokens around. Everything else we'll handle in the forum.
Fair enough, I'll put a token on there at least for ya.

Other than that, I think we are good to go.
Nope I'm good but might do the heroic chronicles for fun and more flavor.

Sounds like a plan. I dig that flavor.
No questions from me. I'll dig a bit through the heroic chronicles to see if there is anything to help round out the character.
Ryndar Shadowsbane - Lvl 3 Eldarin Fighter | Kassar - Lvl 2 Lizardfolk Druid (Circle of Stars) | Finnegan (Finn) Taggert - Lvl 1 Human Cleric (Peace Domain) |
Verdan Schmidt - Lvl 2 Half-Elf Bard | Grithik - Lvl 5 Deep Gnome Warlock (Celestial)

Busy at the moment, will post soon

Sorry to see ya go @darth but hope you have fun in your other games and stay safe out there!
