You do find a mess of a inn as you go thru the door. The dark interior is lit as the group follows you in and Iris' Light spell illuminates the room. The "lobby" is a collection of broken chairs and tables covered in dust. To the far back wall is the old desk, half melted candles sit unlit upon it. An unlit fireplace sits cold to the far right. To the left a staircase ascends upward to where you assume the rooms that were for rent are. There is also a door leading to another room back in behind the desk.

Maudath kicks at some of the debris and then notices the fireplace. He quickly gathers up wood from broken chairs and tables and builds up a fire in the fireplace, and then lights the candles.
"I've half a mind to go back up to the Caer and give the gatekeeper a sound hiding," Maudath says. "He had to know this place was closed down."
He warms his hands over the fire for a moment then he looks over at the others.
"He was hiding something," Maudath continues. "I wonder if this is his way of trying to tell us something."
Then he scans the room again and looks over at the desk and the back room.
"Maybe there's something here he wanted us to see."
Maudath moves over to the desk and searches through it.
"Hold on, check the flue, make sure it's clear so we don't smoke ourselves out... Anything that's in good enough shape it can be repaired, set it off to the side and I'll see what I can do."
The Professor will start by making sure the room is sound and as sheltered as possible before moving on to any more 'comfort' type repairs.

Eve sends Ipkiss up the flue to check it’s open and free of damage and report back to the Professor for any repairs. She’ll also ask him to coordinate with Maudath to manage keeping the fire going. “Look after the fire! On it!… One of my favourite jobs!”, he says, and flutters off.
Ipkiss turns, mid-flutter, towards the Professor, “Nope, it feels like stepping into a warm bath for me! Very relaxing! Ahah..”. And he turns back away, to go on about his task.
Maudath looking around, the place looks properly abandoned. All the furniture is covered with dust and cobwebs, but you notice the floor seems strangely absent of the thick layers of dust. Almost like someones been walking in here.
You look in and find a room very similar to the main room of the inn. The furniture in here is covered in dust and cobwebs. The room is dominated by a large desk. Several unlit candles sit upon this desk as well as a broken inkwell. A worn rug sits in the middle of the room, the colors and design beginning to fade. There are several empty bookshelves lining the far wall as well as a broken bed in the far left corner.

Maudath looks back over his shoulder at the others.
"I'm starting to think we were directed to this place for a reason," Maudath says then laughs to himself. "If nothing else it gives us something to do."
He grabs one of the lit candles from the main room and brings it into the back room and lights the candles on the desk. Then he starts to methodically search the room, opening all the draws in the desk, flipping it over to look at the underside; rolling back the carpet to look for a trapdoor, pulling the bookshelves away from the walls to see behind them.
"Reminds me of when my family were hired to be part of a show for Lord Verrana Rau's big birthday party," Maudath says as he searches the room. "Of course they stiffed us on the bill. You have to love the Rau's. Always fun to be around. They may be part of the ruling council now, but they're still pirates. Thoroughly untrustworthy. Anyway, so my sister, Rielle, and I snuck into the Rau manor house, picked up a few odds and ends to cover our fee. But then I decided to ransack Verrana's private office. I'd swiped a uniform from a House Khatru and left part of it there. Rau and Khatru already hated each other."
He continues searching with a big smile on his face as he reminisces.

Eve just loves adventuring with Maudath, and listens to his stories as she helps him turn over the room. She ‘helps’ him search but it turns out she’s no help at all really, just listening, and asking questions, and lost in his tales of japes and capers…
When Maudath unveils the trapdoor, she scooches over to it on her knees and takes a look. She has a quick look for traps while she’s down there, and if it seems clear, she’ll look around at everyone for a nod, before giving it a try…
Maudath watches over Eve's shoulder as she examines the hatch for traps.
He nods when she looks back to see if she should open it up.
"How long do barrels of ale and wine last, Professor?" Maudath asks as he watches Eve. "If there aren't any answers to why we're in this shack, maybe there'll at least be something to drink from when this was an actual inn."

Maudath points down at the floor.
"Either the spiders and dust have something against the floor, or there's regular traffic through here," Maudath says.
He moves past the desk and to the door leading to the back room.
He listens for a moment then opens the door.

Tossing the room you don't find anything of value till you pull the rug back and find the trap door.

He then sticks his head into the opening.
"So, what's down here?" he says as he looks around below.
