Looking at the amulet it is cold to the touch and very smooth, its black surface unblemished and like looking into the darkest abyss. You do recall the Innkeeper, Cora Mulphoon, saying her son found something similar
Now that he's able to see what Cora described, is he able to discern anything about their composition, properties, history, etc?
"Careful handing those... the innkeep said her son's behavior changed after he came into possession of one of these.... though she mentioned tieflings, not dwarves.... Curious."

Eves eyes widen slightly at the crystal and the mention of tieflings. “Hmm… maybe do you want to hold onto it for now, Professor? Keep it in one of your bag-thingies or something, for safety?”.
"Non-demon blue version are you ok? You need any help?" Ryhunis said while looking at Iris "Unquestionably this was a hard fight but it's wierd to see thine posture go so low so quickly after it, to the point as to completly you know... MISS OUT THE HEALS THAT WE ALL NEED! Someone here must be the harsh leader, clearly that job must be mine" she said with a very proud voice and exagerated arm movements

He'll pluck it from Eve's hand with his floating appendage, drifting it over closer.
Iris looks up "Im sorry, I was pretty tired from before with the Yeti and just didn't have the energy to do more. I really need to rest."
Professor:
Having been in the Vale for quite a bit you've gathered a lot of information related to magic lore and such of the region.
More than a hundred years prior to this adventure, a wizard named Akar Kessel found an artifact suffused with demonic magic called Crenshinibon (better known as the Crystal Shard) and used it to erect a great black tower in Icewind Dale. When this tower was destroyed, the magic used to create it fused with the surrounding ice to form what is now known as chardalyn: a nonmagical, crystalline substance as strong as metal, though considerably easier to work with than steel. In the years since, more deposits of chardalyn have been found across Icewind Dale. Like the Crystal Shard, these deposits tend to be suffused with demonic magic. Prolonged contact with chardalyn that has become suffused with demonic magic can warp a creature’s mind, causing madness that usually fades away once the contact is broken.
Long before Akar Kessel left his mark on Icewind Dale, Netherese wizards created their own chardalyn. Many items made from this dark-colored crystal can be found in the ruins of ancient Netherese enclaves.
"Resting down here would be more defensible, should anyone else come to visit... unless your kicking a guard in the rear can't wait?", he asks Maudath.
((So some chardalyn is demonic infused, but not all? Is there a way to discern whether this has?))

"I suppose his ass will still be there in the morning," Maudath says. "It doesn't look like anyone has been down here to visit the gray dwarves so it should be safe."
He looks back into the room he just came out of.
"Shame to let those hammocks go to waste too."
He looks over at Iris, a hint of concern on his rugged features.
"As safe as it seems, I can still take first watch," Maudath says. "Heck, I could sleep in front of the door if we use their bunk room. It'll take some work to move me without making any sound."
Eve is happy taking a long rest. Before she does though, she would thoroughly search the bedroom for anything interesting or useful, asking Iris to help her look…
As everyone else claims hammocks or figures out sleeping arrangements, the Professor will set up out of the way and draw out his jeweler's tools and begin a closer examination of the crystal over the next ten minutes, being careful not to touch it.
Eve you don't find much other than the signs of people living in a small space for a time.
Professor you setup and complete your ritual. Usually when an item is magic it gives off an aura corresponding with both the type and strength of the magic. Items that are not magical look normal. When looking at the amulet it almost seems to be darker then the surrounding are, like a faint void. You don't recall ever coming across anything like that before.
When you all are ready you settle in for the night. its very cold down here, although not as cold as it would be upstairs. The night goes without incident. You awake to shivering bodies and an uncomfortable rest, but rest none the less.
In the morning, Eve recalls that she had a lead for thefts in the area and dwarfs were potentially a suspect (dwarven footprints I think). Does she get any clues or feeling that these could have been the culprits? Are there any items around here that were reported stolen?
The Professor follows Maudath up, giving the other rooms upstairs a cursory inspection and looking around for passersby before they open the door and step onto the street.

After a moment you also recall that the thieving was happening in Caer Konig not Caer Dineval
Maudath looks down at the Professor and back at the door to see if the others are coming.
"So, you happy with how your gadgets and gizmos have been working?" Maudath asks. "Seemed to do the trick with the gray dwarves. Going to have to get my mum and dad up here. They'd love to see them in action."
Assuming the others are coming, Maudath will chat with the Professor and others as he finds the first available spot for a massive hot breakfast. And then he starts back to the manor looking for the gatekeeper that steered them into trouble last night.
"Ahha! Always things to be improved on, but yes, they seem to be working quite well! I'd be happy to demonstrate my inventions for your folks.", the Professor bundles up and follows Maudath outside to head to the nearest inn serving breakfast.
