Rinn, scouting ahead and searching for telltale signs of travel off the main road, stops short when Annique call the group to halt.
We’re being trailed? By whom? Rinn stands tall and peers beyond the huddled group, scanning the surroundings for anything unusual, and glad for Annique’s sharp eye to the road behind.
For the DM:
If Annique calling attention allows for another check... Perception and Survival are both the same modifier: 20
Also a second roll, if having help grants advantage: 7

Looking back in the direction where they are said to be tailed, Hadi whistles as Laza then flies back to check out what it can see and report to him ((owl perception 17)). He then holds his hand out as small sparks appear dancing between his fingers, ready to fling a [spell[fire bolt[/spell] if needed.
As the group gathers to talk, huddled together to be heard the owl flies off.
Rinn takes a second look at the surrounding area and a strange smell hits him. It feels like ozone for a second, like the smell just after the lightning strikes then it is followed by a strange muffled crackling sound. It is coming from the east you are sure of it.
The Owl doesn't need to go very far to see four white and blue creatures. Standing in hunched position these humanoids like monsters move on all four for speed. They are about 4 feet and have no weapons. They are moving in from the east.
These are mephits.
They are not far from you but are trying to be discreet. They haven't seen the owl and think you are not aware of them.
They will go last so you can all prepare a move ( For those who did not )
Rinn’s head snaps to the east as she hears the sound of something approaching. Something giving off an atmospheric… Taste? Smell? It’s like there’s electricity in the air, yet no storm approaches.
“Annique speaks truth. We are approached by something strange… Prepare yourselves, I know not what we face.” In one practiced motion she draws her longbow from the leather strap sewn to the left side of her pack, while simultaneously nocking an arrow plucked from her quiver tied to the right. Rinn takes three steps southward, giving her companions space along the road, while crouching low in a ready stance. With surprising deftness given her slight frame and the relative size of the bow in her grasp, she draws the string tight, sighting down the shaft of the arrow in preparation to strike at whatever unnatural foe approaches.
As they set travel onto the wild and arid lands of the far north, Thael kept silence, knowing it wouldn’t be that much of an easy task to find any trace of the lost caravan. It had been days since it had disappeared, otherwise clan Battlehammer wouldn’t even notice its absence, and which meant that most tracks should be long covered by the snow. One more thing to thank that damned Auril for.
In resignation, the warlock walked besides the group, Hadi’s familiar high into the skies. A pair of eyes more, a pair of better eyes. Five hours went by before anything owrth of notice happened. They were Halfway by the Redrun Crossing when Annique spoke, announcing her belief that the group was being followed and starting a discussion on how to react. Rinn questioned who could be tailing them while Jarvis spoked with the voice of reason. That far away from a town, in that weather and on the way to a lost cart? It couldn’t be anything good. Thinking about it, they had quite the luck for not coming under attack anytime before.
The armored figure prepared to throw a piece of flame, Hadi projected a mote of flame of his own and Rinn readied her bow. Finding the enemies, or at least part of them, Thael assumes a battle stance with the left hand in front of his body and rises his right hand. Energy crackling on its palm as he prepares to launch and Eldritch Blast.
Notes:
Thael uses the Ready action to use an Eldritch Blast on the first enemy to enter the 120ft range of the cantrip.
Seeing Rinn prepare her bow, Annique moves a few steps in the opposite direction and then quickly drives the bottom edge of her shield into the snow so that it stands in place. Not much for cover really, but now easily accessible should she need it. She takes the longbow from her back and rapidly has an arrow knocked and bowstring drawn. She focuses to the east, watching for whatever is coming. "Ready," she says.
(Sorry for the absence, I'm really busy lately. I'm trying to follow but posting is sometimes hard as I don't get enough time to reply to all. Should have a lot of free time starting in a few days though.)
Before anything else, after seeing the others preparing spells or weapons, Amaryllis says: "If they truly were trailimg us, try to keep at least two of them alive so we can find out why they've been tailing us." Amaryllis then quickly scans the area for a place she can hide in. Behind a pile of snow? Something else around? If she can, she'll do that. If she can't, she'll walk behind Annique's shield. For her small figure, that shield should at least provide good cover. Then, she starts preparing her bow, if fighting truly commences.
Find a hiding spot roll if needed: 9 +1 if Perception, +6 if Investigation.
As the creatures appear over a small ridge you turn as one and take action, sending fire and arrows their way. The creatures shriek an ear-piercing howl at being discovered and having their plan thwarted and charge in rage.
Amaryllis disappears behind a large stump, finding a hole to kneel into.
OOC: You have the round of surprise so make your action rolls now then roll initiative,( I might roll init for you to make things go faster.) please.
He raises a set of odd hooks and slivers of metal (recognizable to some as thieves’ tools) in one hand and readies his shield in the other. In a motion with his tools, he speaks under his breath a sharp, foreign language, casting create bonfire on the nearest of the creatures (yetis?)
Finally seeing the creatures come into view, Hadi lets lose the firebolt he’d held in his hands towards the creatures, bringing some light to the path as it streaks towards them.
Firebolt - Attack: 19 Damage: 10 initiative - 22 I’m very ok with you to roll initiative (and saves and things actually) for us in the future.
(Personally, I'm always in favour of the DM rolling initiative for everyone in PbP as it speeds everything up by a lot.)
Amaryllis picks a sharp-looking arrow from her quiver and knocks it in her bow. She then springs to standing and looks at the enemies coming to them. It seems fighting was unavoidable. She aims her bow at the closest living enemy - even though she sees other arrows and magical attacks flying towards it, taking out one enemy at a time is a good strategy - and releases the arrow.

For Thaddeus: 6
Init order
Iarroris; Haddi 20
Thaddeus 18
Rinn 16
Annique 11
Amaryllis 10
Thael 6
Mephits 3
As the four creatures charge they are met with a barrage of flame and arrows.
Creature's Save: 20
Iarroris' magical fire engulfs the one leading the charge. It doesn't even slow down but it has been hurt. Upon closer inspection, the creature is definitely not a Yetis, too small and no fur for one. Haddi's spell hits the same one and sends him reeling back for a second.
Thaddeus moves forward, prayers flowing from his lips he goes to meet his foes, secure in the powers of his god.
At the last instant, he utters His name and spreads his hands, unleashing a cone of fire.
Damage and Saves:
Dam: 14
1: 22; 2: 12;3: 12;4: 18;
The leading monster burst into flame and crumples to Taddeus feet.
The others are singed but continue to move forward intent on the standing threat.
Rinn's arrow takes one in the thigh, sending him spinning in the air. It doesn't get up. Annique's blow slows the one moving toward Thaddeus but doesn't stop him. Arrow jutting from its chest it continues.
Amarylis's arrow seems to just appear on the last creature's forehead. It takes a second for the monster to realize it is dead.
Thael blast takes down the last one in the chest, motes of magical fire eating at the flesh hungrily. It looks in surprise and tries to stomp the fire out but it only spreads more rapidly. In seconds it's howling in pain and writhing in the snow then all movements stop.
The only sound you hear is the howling wind all around you.
For all:
I ll try to narrate the fights as much as possible. If you have ideas write them when you post your attacks or hint at them in spoilers.
With the small of strange creatures in view, Rinn can tell by their movements that this is intentional. We’re being hunted.
Just as her fingers begin to loosen around the bowstring, she sees the pack of vicious-looking creatures inundated by sourceless fire, vaguely conscious of Iarroris’ chanting and subtle hand movements to her left. From further beyond in her peripheral vision, almost in slow motion, a stream of fire bellowing forth. Rinn watches as her arrow strikes true, followed by the whistling of more arrows, and further gouts of flame. A fondness for flame, these people are… Fitting, here.
She holds her breath, still and unmoving for a drawn-out moment, as the last flickers of magical fire extinguish. Rinn stands tall then, suddenly, and begins to stride off the path in the direction of the creatures. “I would know what foul creatures of these wastes hunt us as wolves would a straying elk.”
Amaryllis pokes her head again, seeing none of the enemies is alive. "Didn't we agree to leave one alive?" She walks forward until she's above the enemies. When she recognizes her arrow in one's forehead, she sighs. "I guess I too am at fault here. Did not expect my shot to be so precise. Well, what's done is done, I guess." Amaryllis picks up the arrow from the creature's corpse, trying to see if it's still useable. Then, she turns to the others. "Any of you might have a guess why these creatures were trailing us? Did they spot us and think we'd make a fine meal, or were they sent on purpose by someone? Does anyone here have enemies who could do such a thing?"
Jarvis moves up to examine one of the dead creatures closely
Intelligence check 5 (I figure nature, but I’m not proficient)
That would be arcana actually.
As Iarroris moves to investigate the creatures' bodies you can see them start to melt away in the wind. Like specks of ash being whisked away by a fierce gust.
Arcana DC 14
These creatures were summoned and probably have a master somewhere in the vicinity. They are not of this plane. They have the look of abyssal monsters.
