Orvo shakes his head at Brandon's question: "Never seen the like of it before. Whether they were cursed during their lives to rise after death, or something roused them to protect this place, I couldn't guess. Me and Urgon had found a few small ruins in the past, but nothing like this"
Qidira presses her ear to the door of room 2 and inspects it for traps, but finds it safe to open.
Inside, the room is in immaculate condition, apparently having been cleaned up after the destruction seen elsewhere in the complex. A crisply made bed stands at the center of the west wall, with small tables off to either side. The room also contains a stone desk set with a chair, and a chest built into the floor.
(I am only describing the room as you see it on entering; please declare if you want to search any specific item)

The Rock Gnome moves in slowly approaching the chest built into the floor. Remembering how the chest in the cave had been trapped, she draws a die out of her pocket and cups her hands over it casting a Light . Continuing to direct the light only in the direction of the chest, Qidira looks it over carefully for the blue powder or other traps. investigation18
Durnham sweeps around the room looking for traces of magical energy. He is interested in the desk and the tables but is wary of anything that has a magical aura.
He watched in expectation as his friends got the item guarded by the carpet, still finding a sense of irony on the whole thing. In the mountain clans it was common to make tapestry out of the skin of hunted creatures, but to have the tapestry move like a creature was an almost funny subversion of the order he was so familiar with. The first thing he noticed about the wand was that he, obviously, wouldn’t know how to use it. The second and most interesting to him, was how it sparked a new conversation among the others.
When they questioned Orvo about the possibility of undead being used as a common security system in the ruins Kotar found the theory terribly plausible. That and the spores… Maybe, just maybe, the Aeorians had earned what happened with their flying cities. At least their scholars seemed to warrant such thing. The goliath was not so certain about the elderly and the young deserved the tragic fate.
“Thank you, Qidira.” The fighter said as the rogue produced magical light. His eyes were not that good in the darkness. “That seems, strangely clean.”Kotar mentioned as they entered in a new room. Scanning it for anyone or anything that could be a potential threat.
As Qidira inspects the chest, Durnham sweeps the room with his magical vision and Kotar with his battle-hones eyes. Neither find what they are looking for; a positive in Qidira's and Kotar's case but no doubt disappointing for the wizard.
Orvo gives a little half-laugh at Kotar's observation: "Yeah, like this room is still being used. But by who?"
Hearing Kotar's appreciation of the light , she fidgets in a pocket pulling out an old bit of costume jewelry, a fake golden knot of wire with a pin affixed to the back of it and recasts the light onto it. She walks over to the large fighter, and standing on the tips of her toes, attempts to reach a portion of his garment. Scrunching up her eyebrows at the dilemma and realizing that she's more likely able to reach a belt buckle than a collar, she hands over the pin to the Goliath. "Here you are! Just affix this to wherever you'd like and it should last a bit. I can adjust the color should the bright white prove too brilliant."
Qidira then returns to the chest to see if its locked and if not opens it carefully while leaning to one side so not to be directly in front of it as it opens. She then reviews the contents if nothing springs out at her with gloved hands and a non-magical dagger to move bits about ever conscious that the blue spores transfer their poison by contact.

As Durnham rummages around the desk he finds a bottle of dried ink, several used quills, five sheets of blank parchment and a piece of paper with a faded message written on it in archaic Draconic. As a draconic speaker, he may be able to decipher the writing with a few minutes to work on it...
But that may have to wait. As Qidira opens the chest, she barely has time to register the wealth of coins within as a swarm of skeletal snakes burst forth and attack!
Qidira is slowest to react as the snakes catch her by surprise. Durnham, by contrast, seems to move on pure instinct despite his alarm at their emergence and is able to act first.
(No surprise round for the snakes, Durnham to go first)
Qidira scrambles in surprise. Ready, she thought for something to happen but not quite this. Fumbling a second, she draws her blades and regains her composure slowed by being caught off guard.
Durnham arcs a fire bolt past Qidira and into the pack of snakes while they are still in mid-air, frying a few of them. The others lash out at their nearest danger - the gnome who opened their chest.
Attack on Qidira: Attack: 20 Damage: 9 piercing
If the attack hits, Qidira must make a DC10 CON save or take 17 poison damage (half, round down, on a pass)
@Durnham: You may make a Nature or Arcana check to see what you know about these creatures (same for anyone with a proficiency in either skill)
Snakes! Nature is a wonderful, but dangerous place. Odd that such things would nest here but it is certainly warmer here than outside. He tries to understand their nature (Nature 14 but also understanding that they have attacked and now we must defend ourselves.

In shock and amazement at the ferocity of the Undead Swarm of Snakes, Qidira collapses. Although her strong Constitution from years of having to endure the roughest elements the city had to throw at her resists much of the poison, her small frame was not sturdy enough for the damage it had already sustained from the main attack.

Durnham will look through the desk, looking at any documentation that might be within. He checks through the drawers if they are unlocked as well.
