Tylaerys insight:7 + advice from Almarath:1 (meh)
"Thanks Almarath, I´ve never even heard of such a creature. Perhaps we should try to retreat slowly to the camp avoiding to antagonize it if possible?" Tylaerys says a bit more nervous now over facing such a massive beast .
As the party is discussing things, Quip plods up following the path the old wizard took. She sees the creature and smiles shakily and extends her hand holding a small piece of food she calls out with her words placed with magic "xzzshrak" {Draconic for "here Sharky Sharky!} and casts animal friendship (DC 14 wisdom save or the creature is charmed for24 hours)
"Be careful Quip, that beast could probably take your whole arm off if it would be so inclined." Tylaerys says to the dragonborn. "Be ready everyone." She adds backing off, closer to Kane.
As Tylaerys backs closer to Kane, he puts an arm around her shoulder, keeping her close to him. At first, she can tell his breathing is heavy and nervous, but after a few seconds, it gets better and he has a calmer look in his eyes. "Maybe, if we back away slower, it won't see us as a danger. Tyalerys, stay close to me. I know you can protect yourself, but I don't want to take any chances." As they past Quip, Kane can see what she is doing. "Be careful, Quip...run away if it attacks." But he does not stop her from what she doing. Kane sees no reason to attack the beast as long as it doesn't attack them.
"Yes I think you are right Kane, let´s hope Quip succeeds in whatever she is trying to accomplish, I´m not sure anyone of us could protect ourselves should the beast attacks us."Tylaerys says to Kane and as the tension rises she takes his hand in hers.

Allyn watches as Quip approaches the beast “Be careful”he warns, trying to determine the attitude of the animal
Insight 14
“It appears to be just curious, I am sure it would have attacked already if it was hungry.” Still, Allyn grasps his weapons and lute a little tighter and prepares to assist Quip if needed.
Almarath: Perhaps overly cautious of the beast, Almarath admires Quip's bravery as they stride toward the shark. The old man closes his eyes and says a series of prayers to Oghma.
As Quip first moves toward the large creature it stops and opens its maw in a threatening manner. A warning of sorts. When the spell takes effect it shakes his head slightly and turns back toward Quip, eyes fully on him.
The beast gives a low very catlike meowling sound and then speaks.
Anyone here and speaking Celestial
"You are entering a dangerous place manlings. My former master serves the ice goddess and he tasked me to guard the path. But I broke free from his bond and I am my own spirit now. You must be careful. I will watch the path still and warn others."
Tylaerys first stands in disbelief as the beast speaks. "I...I don´t understand, it spoke, in celestial, it said that we are entering a dangerous place and that its former master Auril the frostmaiden tasked it to guard the path." She then speaks to the beast in celestial. "Wait please, can you tell us more of Auril and her plans for us?" Persuasion: 16
Allyn looks at Quip with increased respect as the beast turns toward him, makes a sound like a street cat and moves off. “Very impressive, Quip”
“Wait..what?”he turns toward Tylaerys with a look of surprise “That thing actually spoke to you? And it was tasked to guard the path for Auril? We should warn the others. Who knows what other guardians await us, perhaps the dwarves will know more about what this means.”
The beast stops once more and looks at Tylaerys and then at the group.
Celestial
"I don't know much about Auril, but the one who made me serves her and her design. She walks on the ground like you and me. She has purpose as does her servant. It is not for me to know what that is and I stay clear of that threat. I have come to love my freedom. Others have been made in the land beyond the mountains (Icewind Dale ). Some are very happy to serve."
"I am the only one guarding this path and that is a task that I will keep on doing. The dwarves are safe from me. They know of me and respect me and my freedom."
"It is not in the order of things but I will give you this. There is a group of dragonkin that are hunting in those parts. They will try to get some of you. They are farther out. Be careful on the path down."
OOC: THough t the creature is not really a talker I will wait for Quip to continue. Since he initiated this.

Tylaerys does her best to translate what the Ice shark conveys. "So we should be wary of any dragonkin we encounter on our way to Bryn Shander I suppose." She adds. "Thank you, you have done us a great favor by warning us, I hope you will stay free from the influence of Auril and her servants." She says to the beast in celestial as it leaves. When Quip is ready Tylaerys will continue the sweep and then return to the dwarves informing them of what happened. New perception if needed:24
Quip reaches into her mind to an often forgotten aspect of her heritage. Her thoughts drift into the mind of the creature.
"I appreciate your aide and would like to apologize for the magic. I respect your decision to guard the path and your loyalty is noted. Should you ever find yourself of a desire to travel away from this place, I would welcome your company.
I am Xyzixxiquiptiizzixyl of the Crystalkin family of Silverymoon in the silver marches."
When Tylaerys and the others get back to the camp she reports to Mantle on what has transpired. "You could perhaps have mentioned something about this guardian, it got us a bit nervous there for a while." She finishes smiling at the dwarf. "Anything I can do to help set up camp or should we just prepare for our night shifts?"
She then turns to Quip, Allyn, Alamarath and Kane. "Well done back there everyone, I´m glad we didn´t have to fight that beast. I can take the middle shift. Perhaps Almarath can take the first and Kane the last, letting Allyn and Quip recover from the walk?" Tylaerys finds a spot to place her pack and to rest looking for Kane while she does so.
Before turning in for the night she moves over to Kane looking a little ashamed. "I´m sorry I snapped at you earlier, I was under some stress at the moment, and I´m afraid the stories of my family will have to wait. I will tell you when I´m ready to talk more of them. Please forgive me." She says pleadingly to the tiefling giving him a warm hug.
As you all rejoin with the four dwarves at the camp and relate your encounter you can see the surprise clear on their faces.
Chess even stammers a few words. " Damn ... So .. that's what .... Damn." He shakes his head in disbelieve and moves about to do his chores.
Freya takes the lead.
" We dwarves knew they something was watching our treks. We usually leave something for it." She motions to a bundle several feet to the east."Food and trinkets."
Mantle listens to the tale and seems to ponder a few things. " Kobolds, " he starts, " Those might be the dragonkin the beast talked about. They have been a pain for a while. Had to run away a few times too." He doesn't seem too proud of that last part and his voice drops. " They are part of a white dragon race and they have a shaman that has amassed quite some power. The clan usually leaves us alone but with Auril's lockdown, they might be desperate. We will need to be careful. "
AS the camp settles down you huddled into a quickly constructed igloo. The dwarves have been busy while you did your tour.
Though crowded inside it is warm, a feeling you thought you forgot. You settled down and sip some of Mantle's stew.
Before everyone goes to sleep Chess quips up. " The last part of our trek will be funner I guess."
Aster holds the stew in their hands, relishing in the warmth and the smell of it. They had been hanging back with the dwarves, working on the igloo, and as soon as the rest of the group arrives they hold out their bowl for one of them to take. It's slightly colder than the rest, but they clearly don't want to waste it.
"Funner?" They also quirk an eyebrow, settled in a sitting position with their splints loosened, their head resting on their knees "It has been interesting so far, but I don't know if we could call it fun. I've never seen a kobold though..."
Almarath: Almarath finishes his prayers and opens his eyes as the creature begins to speak. The old man' mouth drops open as he realizes he can understand the shark perfectly.
He freezes, pondering this new development. Is it possible he had learned the Celestial language decades ago and somehow forgotten? Is there magic at work? Maybe old age is finally taking its toll? Or perhaps the Gods themselves listen through these old ears even now?
Shaken, Almarath does his best to hide it as he says, "Yes... I'll take first watch. Perhaps Poly will be able to locate these Kobolds." He orders the Familiar to search in the direction the shark indicated and to immediately report back if he finds anything of interest.
Allyn leans back against the wall of the igloo and takes a bowl of soup, sipping gently. “I am not sure how much more fun I can take.” The trek was hard on him today, he is not as strong as some of the others. “But I guess Kobolds are better than doorways full of dark magic and ice sharks.” He winks at Quip “Still, the stories we will be able to tell when this is all done..Quip the shark tamer. Has a nice ring to it.”
