I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Kane smiles when Tylaerys asks if he wants to ride with her. “Like you even have to ask…” He hops onto the sled. After seeing Tylaerys, difficulty with the reins, Kane gives it a try. Animal Handling: 11
Kane can’t seems to control the dog either, he fumbles with the reins. Very embarrassing, especially in front of Tylaerys. “Well, we have one thing in common, we have no idea how to drive sleds.” He laughs.
Taking Tylaerys’ advice, Kane tries again. *Just a regular roll or with advantage?*
Animal Handling: 21
Kane becomes a master of driving the dogs. “Woah, you were right! This is great!” Fearing that they may be going too fast and rough, Kane wraps his arm around Tylaerys’ waist. “So that you don’t fall off..I’ll let go of you think you can hold on.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Almarath: After seating himself comfortably upon one of the sleds, Almarath retrieves a book of Lore from his pack. He thumbs through the pages to the histories and legends of Neverwinter where he'd left off. Looking up only occasionally, he spends the journey quietly studying the region and its customs.
Assuming Kane succeeded at the reins with a little advice from Tylaerys the sled gets going and soon catches up with the dwarves. "No, you are obviously good at this Kane, I think I´ll be fine with you by the reins." She smiles at Kane, patting him encouragingly on the back. She doesn´t seem to mind the arm around her waist. "Please Kane, tell me more of your vision and your deal with Oghma. I must solve the mystery with these visions we all had." During the first stretch Tylaerys will interwiev Kane on these subjects while trying to be a good caravan guard looking out for trouble. Perception:14 If needed she will keep herself and Kane warm (prestidigitation).
(OOC: So unless I missed something Allyn is going with Quip and Tylaerys is going with Kane. Kalec and Almarath must have gotten into the last sled together and perhaps one of you should take the reins of that sled and roll the Animal handling roll? You can use help action and guidance I suppose. Which leaves Aster and Kassius running the first stretch doing con checks, right?)
Kane blushes at the patting on the back, and is glad Tylaerys didn't ask to move his arm away. He likes being close to her, and he thinks she does too, even if she doesn't admit it or know it. "Oh, my visions? Well, they always started with a blazing fire. A nice warm fire. Nothing frightening or disturbing. Then it starts to snow. The snow begins falling faster and faster, engulfing the fire. In the end, the fire is gone, and you feel numb and alone. Then you hear a whisper, a woman's voice saying, "Edge of the World". I've had that same vision for three weeks now, which lead me to the tavern. As for my deal with Oghma, I'm going to tell you something that you can't tell the others. Please promise me this." He takes his ruby ring, the one with Oghma's symbol, and shows it to Tylaerys. "This is no ordinary ring. In the ring contains Sarana, a female Efreeti. I discovered her shortly before coming here. She used to be an Elemental Lord, and shortly after finding her Ogma appeared and said she was a key part of something, but didn't say what. He said in return for my help in Icewind Dale, he would aid in my search for my mother. Sarana, on the other hand, was grateful for me freeing her and agreed to become my patron. She's the reason I can do magic. So, with the combined strength of Sarana and Ogma, we can complete this mission and find my mother. Alright, I've given my spill. Now its your turn." Kane nudges her gently.
Allyn follows up his story with small talk with Quip. “I am impressed with both your research and your music, Quip. You will have to tell me of your studies in Fochlucan one day. My training came at the hands of my mentor and was much less formal.”
Allyn also keeps a watchful eye out for threats along the journey. “As we are in one of the lead sleds, I will keep a lookout for danger. I guess that is our job here anyway, although I do prefer the title of protector to mercenary.”
Tylaerys ponders the words from Kane for a moment but then returns to the conversation. "I´m afraid there isn´t that much to tell Kane. Yours is a tale much more intersting than mine I think. I have little doubt it will be told by the bards one day." She smiles at Kane and continues. "I used to be a courtier in Silverymoon, simply trying steer it´s decisions towards altruism and reason concerning the weave and other matters of the arcane. I was always a servant of Mystra I think, but recently as I visited her temple in Silverymoon, the Tower of balance, for evening prayers I recieved this vision, not unlike your own, but I also could sense something hidden under the ice and the snow, something my goddess wants us to find I believe. Also, the voice in my visions, I am certain it was the voice of The lady of mysteries, who since that evening has blessed me with a strong connection to the weave along with a strong sense of purpose I never had before." She pauses for a moment. "I´m glad you, and the others, are on the same path as me. About your patron Sarana, your secret is safe with me and I wouldn´t question your relationship with her but do you think her interests align with ours? As far as I know the lords of the efreeti are not known for their kindness towards their subjects." Tylaerys asks, trying to be delicate about the matter as she fears this is a sensetive subject to Kane.
Kane thinks about what Tylaerys says. “I understand your doubt. I have read the histories of the Efreeti, of their vast empires and slaves. And their vileness. But Sarana..she’s different. But I think you should talk to her. Here.” Kane takes off his ring and places it on Tylaerys’ finger. She hears a voice, not unlike that of a caring mother.
For Tylaerys only:
Its finally good to speak with you, Tylaerys. I understand your concern and agree with you. Efreeti are evil and cruel. But, I’ve been stuck in this ring for 10,000 years. That gives someone a lot of time to reflect on their life choices. Was my empire worth it? It’s gone now. The people I’ve enslaved? They are dead now. No one even remembers my name. But..with Kane, I feel like someone actually cares. With him, I feel like I have a purpose. To help this handsome young man find his mother, a person to love him. And this noble mission makes me feel good. Better than when I did evil. Don’t tell Kane this, please, but he’s like the son I never had. I was too busy ruling an empire to have children. He’s smart, kind, courageous..and he has good taste in friends. Help me take care of him, will you?
Tylaerys accepts the ring on her finger, impressed with the trust she is given by Kane. As she hears Saranas voice in her head she looks up at Kane smiling with enthusiasm over sharing this impressive piece of magic. She listens carefully to Saranas words and then seemingly replies.
For Sarana only :-) and Kane if Sarana would tell him later.
"Thank you Sarana for having this conversation with me. You seem to know me. Would I be right in thinking Kane already has mentioned me?" Short pause. "It warms my heart hearing your tale, turning away from evil and taking care of Kane. He is lucky to have you. He hasn´t had it easy and I really hope he will find his mother some day, although you seem to be fine mother to him until then. To have a purpose is important, I only found mine recently and I am glad that Kane will be by my side while I´m fulfilling it. I will do my very best taking care of him, of that you can be sure my dear Sarana."
Oh, he might have mentioned you once or twice... You can see it, but you can feel her smiling when she say that. Yes, he thinks about you a lot. He trusts you a lot too. And thank you for saying I would make a good mother. I've never done this before, so I'm learning as I go. Thank you for being with him. He has had a rough life until now. But when he sees you, his heart lifts up. He doesn't say it, but I can tell.
Kane watches while Sarana and Tylaerys communicate. Once he figures there is a pause, he asks, "So, what do you think? What did you talk about? She's great, isn't she?"
Tylaerys smiles mysteriously at Kane while listening to Sarana.
For Sarana
"I´m glad I can make him happy Sarana, and I´m glad you are along on our quest, it was nice talking to you, I wish the best for you too."
"Thank you Kane for letting me talk to your...mentor, she is a very fascinating individual, and she cares a lot for you I can tell. We talked of you mostly as you might imagine, but nothing too embarrassing I think." Tylaerys smiles warmly at Kane winking her eye to disclose her jest. "You´d better take care of this now..." She gently returns the ring on Kanes finger. "...and don´t forget to keep your eyes on the road lest we turn up in a snowdrift." She jokingly nudges Kane in the side.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kane puts the ring back on his finger, twisting it a little to get it tight. "Remember, don't tell the others yet. I don't know how they would react to an Efreeti. But..thank you for understanding. It... means a lot to me. Wait, you talked about me? Like what? Wait, don't tell me. If it's embarrassing, I do not care to know." As they continue to travel. Kane keeps on hand on the reins and one arm around Tylaerys. He keeps his eyes peeled for any trouble and tries to locate a good camping ground. Perception: 9
Tylaerys laughs warmly. "Nothing embarrassing I can assure you my dear Kane, Sarana spoke only the best of you. I won´t tell the others, but perhaps you should. We will face difficult situations together where trust will be paramount. You must decide when the time is right of course." She finishes in a more serious tone.
At one point during the stretch the monotone landscape and the gently rocking of the sled makes Tylaerys doze off briefly letting her head come to rest on Kanes shoulder for a moment before waking up, blushing slightly at her faux pas and resuming vigilance.
Kane smiles at her. “It’s okay. I don’t mind if you need to rest. The journey will be long and we must save our strength. I’ll keep on driving for a while, and then someone can take the sled after we camp for the night. But..I don’t mind if you want to rest.”
"Thanks Kane, but I wouldn´t be much of a caravan guard if I wasn´t keeping watch at least. It´s just that riding in this sled was surprisingly comfortable. Perhaps it´s due to the company I have." She says smiling at Kane. "Anyway, I can have my rest later." She adds determined to fulfill her duties and earn her gold.
