<I was expecting Calner to cast TK on an object - like a backpack; that totally works. For the record, voluntary failure is assumed for spells and effects with a save. I won't force resisting a shove out of the way from a friend to save you from an arrow 🏹.>
<I am not trying to be annoying here, I think the restrictions baked into the game invite creative solutions and (for me at least) that's a big part of the fun the game offers.>
The snake bites the restrained human (escape dc16)
<I'm going to roll advantage separate in case Angus succeeds on escaping. For the same reason I'm also going to roll another constrict attack, which, if successful would also impose advantage on the bite attack>
Bite 14 AD 26 for 18 piercing and DC 15 Con for half of 13 poison.
Constrict 11 for 17 bludgeoning.
Note: if Angus does not escape, constrict damage applies automatically.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"A grappled creature can use its action to escape" but still allows for reaction and bonus action.
The result means snake 1 does no damage this round. He has located himself back into the snakes' den (room 6)
Angus breaks free of the snakes grasp, nimbly dodging it's scales and fangs an instant before it strikes.
<Both snakes look full of vim and vigor, (for being undead things, that is) but Tabaqui would know that at least snake 1 has been beat up more.>
Despite their relatively high hp, the encounter is considered to be below the potentially deadly threshold by the Lazy DM method, but it is close. Each has significantly more hp than any of the PCs. It's also right out of the book as written. Having more players would change the encounter dramatically, that's why I started with more than the recommended number, assuming attrition. A long rest will be possible, but I recommend taking it outside the 'dungeon' with the rock guys keeping watch.
Snake 2 x Angus (currently unrestrained)
Bite: 10 for 17 piercing + 23 poison (half on save, DC 15 Con)
Constrict: 24 for 18 bludgeoning (auto grapple, restrained. Escape DC 16; [uses an action])
Based on the diagram, the opening to the snakes' den, area 6, is 9.231ft wide. Lightning bolt is 5ft wide.
Aiming through a moonbeam, then through one snake and hoping not to hit Angus on the other side, battling with another snake. The moonbeam presents no obstacle, but the snake closer to the opening and arguably the one trying to constrict Angus make it all but imposaible to even draw a straight line that will hit both snakes and not the paladin, let alone actually doing so without being able to see him. I hate saying "no"; I have a "yes and" mindset, so my view is to use the games premise to see what happens.
The sorcerer thinks he can do this, he tries to do this. It's not technically impossible, just really unlikely. I'd give it a 5 percent chance to not hit Angus (DC20). 9.
Angus' sword cuts into rotting reptilian flesh. Milky black scales are cleaved by the shining sword, searing the serpentine skin as it cuts into the sinewy muscle that's long since passed rigor mortis and returns to a supine state once more, only to be rent by the Paladin's radiant steel blade.
As the brave warrior fenda off the slithering giants, a beam of energy ripples through the cavern and jolts all three of its current occupants (Angus is hit by the lightning bolt, prompting the requisite Dex save)
Seeking to assist Angus by distracting the snakes with a new target, Tabaqui will climb up to melee range and begin attacking with his rapier. Again, going for whichever he can reach, and if equally reachable, the more wounded of the two.
Rapier Attack: 11 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. +48sneak attack, all piercing
(oops rolled d20s by mistake, real sneak attack is 23

This would require moving through moonbeam, I believe. The attack misses.
