Kirari catches the other pouch and adds it to the count. "So, there's 11 gold, 9 silver and the 4 onyx Black Dragon Pendants. Now for the chest..." She says tossing them all into a pouch together for splitting once the contents of the chest is revealed. She keeps watch as the others investigate.
"Thank you,"Travis says to Kirari as he feels the healing power go through him.
Travis looks over the weapons and armor used by his opponent. "Indeed these are very well made," he says. "But I do not intend to use any of them. I fight with shield and longsword, and my chain mail has proven reliable. Perhaps one of you can use them. At any rate, we should take it all, for I am sure they are worth much coin."
That said, he watches as the rest of the group investigates further.
Inglenook's investigation does not reveal that the spear or sword to be magical, but the armor glows a slight blue and reveals that it is indeed imbued with magic due to the scales used in its construction
@Inglenook:
Here are the stats from D&D Beyond on the dragon scale mail, and it offers protection from lightning.
Dragon scale mail is made of the scales of one kind of dragon. Sometimes dragons collect their cast-off scales and gift them to humanoids. Other times, hunters carefully skin and preserve the hide of a dead dragon. In either case, dragon scale mail is highly valued.
While wearing this armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC, you have advantage on saving throws against the Frightful Presence and breath weapons of dragons, and you have resistance to one damage type that is determined by the kind of a dragon that provided the scales (see the table).
Additionally, you can focus your senses as an action to magically discern the distance and direction to the closest dragon of the type of armor within 30 miles of you. This special action can't be used again until the next dawn.
Cale does not detect any traps in the chamber or the passageway, but there is clearly a mechanism attached to the back of the chest that shows it is part of a trap if opened.
"Doorway's clear but we don't want to open the honeypot right now" says Cale, unhooking a set of tools from his belt.
He tries to disarm the trap, going uncharacteristically quiet as he works.
(Rolled a 16 on the game log. If this is not sufficient then he will use Psi-Bolstered Knack to add 1d6 (rolled a 6, also in the game log), but this is only expended if needed)
(@Cale, No need to use the Psi-Bolstered Knack as you met the DC)
With deft movements of the tools, the spring for the trap falls harmlessly to the floor of the chamber. Cale opens the chest slowly and carefully to see if there are items left inside at the alter of this large dragon.
@Cale:
Inside are a string of pearls (300 gp), a gold-and-sapphire ring (900 gp), and a pouch containing a half-dozen masterfully cut and polished precious stones (100 gp each). The pearls and ring would be similar to the style that you saw the more wealthy people, like Nighthill, wearing in Greenest at the keep.
(As the characters walk through the room, go ahead and roll perception or religion checks if you would like to examine the carvings of the dragons on the wall.)
While the Professor may be unsure about the significance, it looks like the dragons adorning the walls of the chamber are painted, and there are far more black dragons than any of the other colors. Also, these carved dragons have holes carved into the mouths. The dragon emerging out of the volcano on the alter has multiple heads, and each is painted a different color.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I do prefer Scale, would anyone mind if I claim it?" Kirari gestures at the now removed suit of Cyanwrath's former armor. With approval of the others she'll claim the scale for herself and proceed to inspect their surroundings.
"Travis, the armour seems to be a gift from a dragon. It's scales will offer a little more protection from attacks, and even more so to some typical attacks from dragons themselves. It also seems to have a link to dragon kind. It may help us find one if we ever decide to meddle with one."
"Oh, and it's a nice colour and quite shiny. I like it!"
And he just nods at Travis and grins, pleased to have been of help.
(@Jynne, no worries, and if you want to go back and do Channel Divinity, I think that would be okay! Go ahead and roll a religion check if you want to look at the chamber decorated with all of the dragons)
As Kiari studies the alter, the significance of the volcano and many-headed dragon start to come into focus
@Kiari
The five-headed dragon is Tiamat, and the volcano is the Well of Dragons, where the Cult of the Dragon intends to bring Tiamat into the world. The Well of Dragons is located at the northern extreme of the Sunset Mountains, though the exact location has been lost to history.
Additionally, the presence of so many black dragons around the chamber suggest this is the favored dragon of Mondath or Rezmir who lead this group. Could this be related to the whispers of dragon eggs over the last few days in Greenest and in the camp?
"That looks like Tiamat and that is the Well of Dragons where the Cult seems to intend to bring Tiamat into the world. If I'm not mistaken, the Well of Dragons is located at the northern extreme of the Sunset mountains though the exact location isn't known for sure in any text I've seen." She looks around at the number of black dragons through the chamber. "Mondath or Rezmir must favor the Black Dragons. Maybe the whispers of dragon eggs in greenest are black dragons?"
The professor gazes at the carvings and iconography with interest. At Kirari’s words he asks, “speaking of dragon eggs… what happened to that egg we were tracking down? We took care of the Dragonborn but what of this Mondath or Rexmir? I’d be willing to wager every coin in Cale’s pocket that wherever they are… the egg is nearby.”
Cale's hand moves to his pocket instinctively at the Professor's words, then he catches the joke. Then Kiari's words seem to sink in: "Wait, what? Black dragons? Please tell me they're the good-natured ones"
Then: "Yeah that eggs needs finding, otherwise things are going to get real dangerous around here"
Seeing the significance of the alter and carvings, the party could descend the passageway found behind the altar (you would have to go single file) or you could head back out the way you came.

The professor looks around the room thinking that this must be some kind of temple for these cultists.

@dm request for retcon to use her knowledge of the ages for Religion proficiency?
As an action, you can use Channel Divinity to gain proficiency with any skill or tool for 10 minutes.
Cale puts the contents of the chest into a pouch, not hiding the act from the others - it looks like gems and jewelry.
