The kobolds nod at the professor and say, "This way, this way!" They point to the earthen ramp up to the northern side of the plateau. "There are a bunch of shrubs up there!" squawks the kobold. Another kobold goes, "Or we like to run up the ramp and throw rocks down on the prisoners if they are too slow!" The other kobolds seem delighted by this as they grunt and hop.
With passive perception, the party would see that shrubs line the edges of the trail they are on and dot the tops of the plateaus. The cultists come up to Thaddeus and Travis to stoically say, "Would you like us each to take a prisoner and bind them to us for their work?"
Cale puts his hand up gingerly, slowly, and says to the nearest kobold "Can I take a comfort break in the bushes, boss? It's a bit nervous for a lowly handsome human to be around such rugged-looking guards as yourselves"
The kobold looks delighted to be called "boss" while the others seem slightly jealous. "First firewood, then break!" squeaks the kobold. The kobold then looks to Thaddeus and Travis to make sure that was the right answer.
Thaddeus nods to the kobolds. “Split them up so they are spread out. We will be over there with the other guards.”
He then walks towards the other cultists, leading Travis if he wishes to come as well. He moves around to stand so that they would have to turn away from the kobolds and the prisoners working to look at him.
“Ugh, work detail is the worst! What a waste of time having to watch these prisoners. So, you are new recruits Eh? What brought you to our glorious religion?”
The professor wants to engage the cultists in conversation and draw their attention using charm and guile.
Travis nods and follws Thaddeus. As the professor looks to chat up the other cultists, Travis glances from time to time in the direction of the others, checking to make sure nothing too problematic is happening. He keeps his eyes and ears open.
Perception 11
At the same time, his hand casually moves to the hilt of his sword, ready to draw should something closer at hand get out of hand.
The cultists, eager to impress Thaddeus, each let out a loud "Hail Tiamat!" Then, the tallest says, "I was actually taken prisoner in Greenest and the Dragon Queen came to me in a dream telling me I didn't have to do the work detail if I converted; instead, I could be part of her triumphant return to this plane." The other cultists look like they remain skeptical at this story and nod politely saying that they were each taken prisoner in earlier raids but in awe of the cult's power, they decided to join.
Travis does not notice too much out of the ordinary as three kobolds lead Kiari, Inglenook and Leosin up the earthen ramp to the north. Two kobolds lead Cale around the bend to the south while the final kobold appears to be doing some kind of sentry march coming and going from where Travis is standing now.
After turning the bend, the kobolds turn around to look for a rock to throw at Cale, but when they turn around, he has vanished! One kobold looks to the other and says, "Welp! Do we go get help?" The other says, "No, no! We would get in too much trouble!" They then start heading further south, away from the main group, to see if Cale is just a really quick walker.

Kirari tries to keep her expression blank and gestures hidden as she casts toll the dead on the Kobold the furthest ahead. She pretends not to notice what is happening around the Kobold as it is cast.
Range is 60', d12 if injured but I don't believe any are, WIS save vs DC 12 for no damage. Damage if fail - > 4
If they react to it, she will pretend confusion at what could be causing this - are they in danger? Rather than revealing that she caused it.
Inglenook catches Kirari's motions and feels that it's a sign to start doing something. And with no other real plan in place for the group he draws his crossbow, pointing to a kobold that is not adjacent to him and fires.
Attack: 9 Damage: 5
If it doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity, Inglenook will run 25ft away from the group, but trying to keep within shouting distance of Travis, Prof and Cale

The kobolds are a bit too slippery for Cale, and they look more relieved than frightened as they draw weapons and advance.
(Let's start rolling initiative, and I'll process three different combat zones, the south with Cale, Larry Kobold, and Archie Kobold; Kiari, Inglenook, and Leosin with Patty Kobold, Ursula Kobold, and Rebecca Kobold; lastly Travis and the Professor with Roger Kobold, Ivan Initiate, Ichabod Initiate, and Igor Initiate. It looks like the first two zones are active now with the cultists and kobold looking to Travis and the Professor to see what to do when hearing this commotion).

ZONE 3: The Path
The kobolds and initiates all look to Travis and Thaddeus, and the kobold squeaks, "I can run back to camp, boss!"
The professor turns towards the kobold that spoke about going back to the camp. “No, we need to round them up before they get away. The others and I will help. I’d hate to see what happens to those who failed in this simple task...”

The kobold salutes and says, "Hail Tiamat!" to the professor and holds its position on the path. The cultists say, "Which way? The north or south? Or should we split up?"

Kirari picks up her pace not wishing to suffer the disadvantage of target practice for the mischievous Kobolds.

Cale starts to walk away from the main group, ostensibly towards a pile of firewood, saying "I'll get this lot over here then"
Checking to see if a kobold is following him, if he can reach the wood without challenge then he will dive into/behind it to seek cover:

Cale waits for the kobolds to pass, then sneaks out and tries to grab one, hoping to hold it in a grapple.

Whether he holds on to the kobold or not, he then tries to intimidate them into handing over their weapons and/or running away:
"Fools! I am Cale of Neverwinter, slitter of throats and eater of pathetic wimpy kobolds. Drop your weapons and flee!"
