Kirari looks up at the ceiling above anticipating it to be filled with the small creatures, but more specifically looking to see what may have caused them to die in such a manner drawing her crossbow carefully as they move forward along the path.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Don't touch the lever!"Cale exclaims, "It's set to dump us into the violet fungus - and that doesn't seem like a good thing. I guess it's softly softly from here on in then?"
Kiari would see the bats sleeping in a large colony above them as the party sneaks through the cavern. Travis accidentally steps on a bat that is still very much alive, and it lets out an angry squeak. Still, Cale has found a quiet pathway through the cavern, and it leads to a fork in the path:
On the right, some steps are carved into the rock.
At the base of these steeply descending steps, a curtain hangs across the passage. It is made from hundreds of heavy leather strips, each about the width of a human hand. The strips are fixed to the ceiling and are long enough to drag on the floor. The curtain extends from wall to wall. The leather comes from a variety of local animals and is badly cured. The curtain is several layers thick with no gaps, so you can’t see through it at all.
On the left, there is a longer passageway, but the torches do not seem to be lit in that area.
Kirari give a nod of agreement and moves slightly forward to help pull the curtain of skins apart for the better armored to pass through first shivering slightly as she does.
Travis lets stealthy Cale lead the way through the curtain, then moves forward next, once he gets an all-clear sign. He now has his shield and sword in hand, sensing danger growing more imminent.
The professor agrees “In any fight, the safest way to attack is only after you secure the rear and flanks before advancing. That is a strange curtain though… we should approach it carefully.”
ale advances carefully down the stairs and through the strange curtain, trying to be as quiet as possible and looking out for traps or danger as he goes.
The professor thinks to Cale “Marvelous! This mental communication is amazing.” He then turns serious, “Why is this curtained area trapped, are they keeping others out… or keeping something in?”
As you look through the curtain, the smell of old blood assaults your nose. The floor is covered with dried puddles of it. Four floor-to-ceiling columns are spaced across the chamber, and chains have been strung between them like clothesline. Animal carcasses hang on hooks from the chains. You see gutted and skinned antelope, deer, goats, what might be big cats, and even a few small bears. Some of this meat has been here for a while if the smell is a reliable indicator. Clearly, this is where the mercenaries are taking their kills after the captives dressed them.
Cale does not detect any traps but sees tracks showing the carcasses must have been taken in and out by kobolds. He would also see how the trail blood goes off in the opposite direction, towards the path the party did not take on the left of the junction.
Inside the room, the smell of the old meat is almost overpowering due to it being behind such a heavy curtain.

The professor stays with the others, keeping behind the forward members but close to the group.

He creeps forward with the others.
Stealth 19
Travis stays a bit back from the stealthier members of the group. Once they advance a bit, he follows, giving them plenty of room.

"Hmm fork ahead" says Cale to the others in a whisper. He is still suppressing a wince from Travis's flattening of the flying rodent.
"I might not see much going down that long corridor, but the meat curtain could be hiding anything. I vote curtain, what about you guys?"
Kirari give a nod of agreement and moves slightly forward to help pull the curtain of skins apart for the better armored to pass through first shivering slightly as she does.

@Cale
Your careful inspection reveals that this area is trapped. The strips are coated in poisoned barbs!
As Cale looks at the curtain, the smell of blood hangs in the air as the curtain parts.
Cale holds up a hand in warning to his colleagues and then fires a quick psychic message to each one: "Trap, poison barbs!".
He starts to back up, indicating for them to do the same.

"It's OK, looks clear - just be mindful of the barbs on the curtain" Cale says to the team via his psychic messaging after moving into the new area.
He then moves into the room, looking out for any traps and inspecting for clues or information.

Travis follows along, ready to draw his sword in an instant if need be. His face squinches up slightly at the nasty odor.
"I think this is a bust, just a very disgusting one" Cale says.
"Let's back up and take the other route"
He leads the party down the other fork, eyes straining to see in the dark.

Travis would not see anything out of place in the dank chamber filled with wild game in various states of decay.
(Don't mind this roll as Cale passes through the tunnel over to the other fork)
