As the party head out, Lia approaches Stena, who she’s seen caring for, and speaking with, Topsy and Turvy. ”Stena, would you help me speak with Topsy? I have something for her…”.
She speaks to Topsy, through Stena, as they get moving, “Young Topsy. I see you lost your crossbow in the escape… I think it’s best you and Turvy look after each other and keep out of close-combat as much as possible… Here…”. She gives Topsy her hand crossbow and bolts, with a big smile. “If I need it back, I’ll ask, but for now you can use it”.
Galingal watches Lia with Topsy and Turvy for a moment. He takes note of their smaller stature, smaller muscles and also that Lia calls them young. Children? Is that the word?

Topsy accepts the crossbow with a grateful nod and a smile.
Galingal, you know they are deep gnomes like Jimjar, but while he's an adult, you'd judge their age to be the equivalent of a 75-85 year old elf.
((Essentially 15-16 year old in human age.))
Sarith sets out, Galingal, Thom and Stena close behind. The cavern leads out into an area with many tunnels branching off from it, and after a moment of hesitation, the drow picks one and sets the pace for the party. It's a grueling day of travel, but you encounter no dangers, other than the danger of getting lost, but Sarith seems confident. As you travel, you come across a small pool of slowly dripping water. After testing it, it seems potable, but with an unpleasant minerality. There's enough for everyone to drink some, but not get their fill before you start worrying about delaying your travel and move on.
As the party starts to grow weary, Sarith passes word to start looking for somewhere to camp for the night.
Thom points out a spot in a grove of dead tree-like mushrooms, all that remains are 20 ft high stems a few feet in diameter. It seems reasonable enough, giving you some amount of cover. They are identified as zurkhwood, a building staple in the Underdark, and the source of the planking used at the drow outpost. Unfortunately, no more edible to the rest of you than a plank of wood, though when Lex sets him down, Stool toddles over and seems content to worry away at it.
Hunger is starting to set in, but worse is the thirst.

Looking for a 'drop of water' ruling. I'm going with a drop of saliva would qualify - it's about as pure water as anything one would find in the typical D&D environment. If that's acceptable, Galingal will swap out a currently memorized spell for Create Water after his next rest.
Galingal notices the effects of no water on everyone and nods to himself.
"I did not know water was so rare here," Galingal says to the others. "If make basin I can gather power while meditate and then fill with water."
He then sets about breaking off or cutting off with one of his daggers, strips of the zurkhwood. He finds a few stones to use as trowels as well and starts digging. He points at the other stones and nods at the others to help.
As he works he looks over at the others. All are fixed headlong on escape. But eventually they will either escape or be caught. If they escape, then we'll see what everyone's objectives really are.
"We can line hole with wood and stones. Maybe funghi. Collect water when make. Will make much. Enough for all to drink deep."
Con Save: 14
He then looks over at Sarith.
"The drow," he begins. "Will they follow? Long time?"
(will wait for any input Sarith might have before voting on fast v normal speed)
Yeah, I don't think I have a problem with that. If you happen across water on Day 2, that would cover it, and as long as you save a drop each time, you'd have it for next time, in case people get too grossed out by your spit water.
Since you seem to be taking on the water provisioning...
A character needs one gallon of water per day, or two gallons per day if the weather is hot. A character who drinks only half that much water must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or suffer one level of exhaustion at the end of the day. A character with access to even less water automatically suffers one level of exhaustion at the end of the day.
Going multiple days without water compounds the problem quickly.
So one casting makes 10 gallons, which would take care of ten, and leave 4 to go thirsty, or be enough for everyone to have 0.714 gallons.
Sarith responds in Elvish, his tone tired as he wearily places his head in his hands, talking as he massages his temples.
"Fourteen escaped slaves is a lot of lost value, but as Jorlan said, is a black eye to Ilvara and Shoor. Command of an outpost is a chance to prove oneself worthy and capable of more important postings, she'll be motivated to recapture us, but might be in time that if we stay out of her grasp, she'd be better focusing on what respect she still has rather than chasing us all through the Underdark. I'd say if they've not caught us in two weeks, that they'd give up the chase and try to keep it quiet... They're likely going to put the most effort in early.... I don't like needing to wait so long to move again... if it were just you and I, we could easily stay ahead of them. The extra four hours the others need to rest is four hours they're getting closer."
"However. The others extended me a measure of trust that those of my own folk did not. I'd have not made it out of there without you AND the others. I'll not abandon you to the whims of Ilvara. I don't like the feeling that they're creeping up on us, but as long as we can stay ahead, I think we'll be okay. It might be worth you and I using those additional four hours to scout around our campsite and see if we can find more provisions?"

(If a negative) she'll offer a place in her hold,
"Aye'm a bit of an orphan mehself, aye'm happy to offer ye meh home for as long as ye need. It's good ye got each other, but aye know what it's like to be without a home."
((It'd take a bit more sewing/crafting to turn them into something portable, but they may help with being able to line the water trench Galingal is making. At least might help prevent it from picking up quite as much sediment and dirt.))
Topsy seems pretty run down and woozy from lack of water, and still being fully shackled. Her brother is in full on protective mode, having managed to stave off exhaustion and escape his bonds. He growls at Stena until Topsy rouses herself enough to rebuke him.
"Sorry for Turvy. He's just worried about me. It's just been the two of us for a while. I ah.... we thank you for the offer... but I don't think we'd fit in there."

Lia and Lex are feeling the effects of going without water, but Stena, Galingal and Thom are fine for now.
You're all able to get a long rest, and as your fellow escapees begin to groggily stir, discussion once again returns to the drow pursuit, and how close they might be.
Beginning Day 2 of Freedom, traveling to Darklake: Miles traveled, ~12
Liais feeling the effects of too little water for sure. But the news that Galingal may be able to create water gives her some hope.
She will help where she can with building the pit for the water, but doesn’t want to over exert herself after such a trek with little to eat and drink.
She will say to Galingal, “Well done Galingal, you give us all hope today!”. She gives him Bardic Inspiration to use as he sees fit (the building project, more lock-picking, etc), but she settles down early to rest herself, sleeping in her armour for warmth ((if allowed?)).

Galingal nods at Sarith's suggestion of spending the extra time at night foraging. Once the trench is finished, or as finished as it can be, he sets about looking for anything that could be edible: mosses, lichen, anything growing. He'll keep an eye out for what Jimjar and the other underdarkers have pointed out as food sources, but barring those he'll bring anything back and let them make the call on whether it's food or not.
Survival: 6
After that he'll settle into his meditation. Thankfully this night his mind stays still and he's able to merely focus on his breathing. Perhaps now that she's found him again she'll leave him be for awhile, he thinks to himself. He hates that he has to break that peace.
In the 'morning' he sits in a lotus position for another few minutes. During that time he calls upon the Raven Queen to grant him the gift of her powers. He can feel the change and an echo of a raven cawing, almost like laughter in his thoughts.
He then moves over to the trench, and without hesitation spits into it, moves his hands like falling rain, and says "Regina corbului creează apă".
Clear drinking water suddenly fills the trench to the brim, 10 gallons worth. He kneels down and drinks deeply for a few moments before calling the others over.
"If I don't have to use my energy for fighting today," Galingal says. "Can do again tonight."
He looks back at the trail behind them.
"Take wood and rock when finished. Bury trench. Hide camp before leave."
(A gallon each to stave off dehydration a day, hard to drink that all in one go but if they manage at least half now, and then half again later it might work).
Rather than offset their trances, Sarith goes out foraging with Galingal, reckoning that they are the only ones that can, and that having two pairs of eyes to look out for food, water, and foes is better than one.
Survival: 11 Exhaustion Disadvantage: 6
They don't have much luck, a scuttling cave bug darts into a crevice before they can make an attempt at killing it, and the fungi they do find are non-edible. Sarith is dragging by the time the pair of elves get back, but he assures Galingal that he'll be alright.
The next morning when Galingal summons water, pipes up, "I bet I could finish that whole thing myself! We should probably make sure those that need it most get it, yeah? It's your water though Gal, you tell us how to divvy it up."
While the others come to the water, Galingal tries working on the one set of manacles on Topsy and on the rest that still have collars on.
He looks over at the water as they come and keeps an eye on how much is being taken. For this time he does his best to limit them to an equal share each (the .7gal amount).
"Not getting equal share often punishment in her army," Galingal says as explanation. For now they all need to survive. There may come a time when that no longer holds.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Galingal does another round of picking, managing to free Lex of her collar and Topsy of her manacles, before the pick gets twisted in Buppido's collar.
He collects himself and manages to get Thom and Jimjar free of their collars as well.
Derendil recruits help to try to wrench his own collar free. STR: 7
Eldeth will offer to help Stena, and Lex tries to free Topsy (after getting snarled at by Turvy). STR: 23
Buppido and Topsy each try to get free of their collars with help as well.
"At least we're all free of the manacles! I bet five gold that Derendil gets himself out tomorrow.", Jimjar offers to Galingal.
The exhausted NPCs would be in favor of a normal pace to try to find more food and water as we go, so unless there is a strong contingent arguing for fast, go ahead and make Survival checks or Perception checks.

(Vote - Normal pace to see if can look for food a little as they go)
Galingal does another round of picking, managing to free Lex of her collar and Topsy of her manacles, before the pick gets twisted in Buppido's collar.
He collects himself and manages to get Thom and Jimjar free of their collars as well.
Derendil recruits help to try to wrench his own collar free. STR: 7
Eldeth will offer to help Stena, and Lex tries to free Topsy (after getting snarled at by Turvy). STR: 23

Galingal looks at Jimjar, confused for a moment then he pieces together what has been offered.
"You want me to give you coins if he frees himself?" Galingal asks. "What coins? Why would I do this?"
Galingal, after failing miserably to find food before, will focus on keeping watch while they travel.
