As you get ready to depart, Sarith stumbles bit, catching himself against a zurkhwood stump.
He addresses Galingal,
"I'm feeling a bit dizzy today, hopefully the water gets me sorted, but would you might taking point? I'll be by your side to help."
((He'd been making Survival checks to navigate and keep folks on the right path. Since you don't know where you're going, you'd not normally be able to make the check, but he's going to help to offset that difficulty, while not being responsible for it himself today. I'll use your Perception die roll above, which is sufficient to keep from getting lost!))
The party departs, traipsing through the twists and turns of the Underdark, the party foraging as they can, though most of them are too listless from lack of water to be much good. Turvy manages to find 2 lbs of bluestalk spores that he harvests in the trillimac leather that Stena gave him. Jimjar finds another trillimac and is able to collect another 8 pounds of the inedible stalk.

((OOC: Lia knows how to play her Lyre very well. She can play loudly and quietly and knows how to appropriately fill a space with the sound. And knows, through her magic, and association with the weave, how the sounds travel and echo. What would she guess about how far the sound of her instrument would travel here, through these tunnels and catacombs, given the hard acoustics and soft mushrooms, etc? If she played quietly would she think she could play softly to boost moral but not be heard, say, 200ft, 500ft, 1000ft, etc, away?? And does she get a sense that the sound would be easy to pinpoint here, or would it sound like it’s coming from everywhere and nowhere? Thanks))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Cool! Thanks - Thom's Level 2 HP roll: 11. I will continue to do this as he levels up regardless of the rolls just to keep it consistent.))
Thom would've happily worked with Stena in the harvesting of the stalks. "Interesting plants, yeah? I usually tend to stay away from the shrooms on the surface myself. Maybe I'll look into them more up there. If we ever get back there, yeah?"
Thom takes the stalks as he thinks they might be too long for Stena to carry on her back and has an internal chuckle at that. "Thanks for your help, Stena! We'll get these soaked and dried whenever we find water."
Thom responds to the Prince in private, in elvish "Ah, Nelrindynvane. Right. That's the place. Right. Ah yes, advisor! That's right. Looking forward to it, my honored Prince!" Thom will roll his eyes once he walks away from Denedril.
I know this is probably too late, but Thom would've voted for a normal pace. He thinks they've got a good enough lead but is a bit concerned at what Sarith and the locals are saying. Still, he's ok to go a bit slower and ensure nothing ambushes the party along with getting some food. He votes normal every day unless the drow catch up.
After the Prince fails at Thom's collar, he'd ask Galingal if he'd try and pick the lock for him. "You think you might be able to give this one a try too, mate?"
((ok it seems I was really behind.))
"Thanks, mate!" Thom says to Galingal, both for the collar and the water. He would be very impressed with the trench setup to hold the water and would've for sure helped with building it all.
He'd say to Galingal after his comment about not having magic left to fight. "Oh not to worry, mate. I will cover you." and he looks at him as confidently as he can, this kind if timid immature half elf looking at this maybe intimidating powerful shadow elf. haha.
Thom is going to remain focused on the surroundings as the party does the foraging for the travel and he'd always vote for normal speed.
Lia walks alongside Thom for a short while. She laughs at his question, “Ha!… Would you believe I came down here out of choice? Choice or purpose… … I guess… I… Thom, do you believe in fate?”.
”Do you ever get to thinking, what if I never made that choice?… I mean… what if I hadn’t come down here at all? I might have never pulled you off of that web… … … So much hangs just on a single choice, you know?”.
”Here…”, she quietly plucks a string on her Lyre, up by both their ears. <DING… ding… ding… ding….>… “There!… You hear that??!…”. Aside from the lonely, plucked note echoing back, there’s nothing extraordinary to hear. “You hear it??… …It’s not right… The note, it bends to darkness, the harmonic is out of time… the echo… it’s like it’s rejected rather than reflected. Uh.. You understand?…”.
”The music of the universe is.. ‘off’. Something’s not right… …and it led me down here”. She looks at him willing him to hear it, and to understand, but she hasn’t met anyone on her travels so far who has.
After a few hours of walking, Stena's getting back in the hang of foraging in the Underdark, the soft sounds of moving water coming to her. She has the party pause, while she goes to check it out, Jimjar accompanying her. She finds down a side tunnel, a trickling spring that pools into a basin before filtering down between the rocks. There are tracks nearby that seem to indicate that it's used by creatures of the Underdark, and is hopefully potable. There'd be enough room in the basin to soak their stalks as well.
On a ledge above the pool are some sheets of ripplebark fungi as well, probably 10 lbs worth.
"Water! A gold says it tastes funny."
((If you wished to take a short rest here, you could soak the stalks to render them edible.))
@Lia
You'd have a general sense of how it might carry to where you've been, but you would be less able to predict how it will carry ahead of you. The twisting and winding certainly makes it echo and reverberate, your sense of the acoustic nature of the weave that you're able to tap into feels invigorated. In some places where you hear sounds of the party echoing back, you smile at the thought of singing a duet or in a round with your own echo.
Stena would have quietly worked with Thom with the stalks and she wouldn't have made any small talk with the half-elf and just grunted to his rambling statement about mushrooms.
She competely ignores Thom's small talk as they walk and glances forward at him and Lia with irritation and muttering in dwarven loud enough for Eldeth,
"These two are going to attract trouble."
---
Stena ignores Jimjar's bet with a look of mild disgust. Sighing she remembers he has been a solid ally and says,
"It is a bad bet. All the water down here tastes funny."
Stena goes back with Jimjar and explains what she found and says,
"We should take a rest here and get the stalks edible, but be on yer guards. Locals use this water as well and one might come for water and find us a convenient snack."
She will then find Lia and ask,
"Can ye do that trick on the stalks to dry them out after we've soaked'm? That way we'll not be walking on empty stomachs while we wait the day for them to dry."
Stop it stop it stop it! Lol… Lia hears exactly that. She is desperate to sing. She hasn’t played her Lyre in weeks now aside for that one plucked string. She’s like a kid that’s full of a story to tell but has to wait until the grown ups finish talking. Music and rhythm is almost bursting out of her and spilling over but she’s holding it in. Even in her weakened state, she’s walking in a syncopated step against anyone she’s near just for fun. She takes a few steps and twirls or her arms make beautiful lines as she walks. But she wants to sing and play really but knows she has to keep quiet…
When they get to the water, Lia offers to ‘clean’ and ‘flavour’ the portion that anyone is drinking from using prestidigitation, but she’s not pushy about it. She can make it taste like whatever people like. If people are into it she’ll take requests.
((Do we cure exhaustion immediately or only on the next long rest? And only with food too?)).
Lia will respond to Stena, “We can certainly try!… Here let’s take a look…”. When they’re good and ready, Lia attempts to dry the stalks with prestidigitation as best she can.
Thom responds to Lia "Fate, madam? Yeah, I suppose I do. Suppose I wasn't written the best one either. Seems none of us were? Ah well, perhaps it's all part of some greater plan like ye say, yeah? Bah, who really knows anyway. I'm just glad your fate was webbed into mine back there."and he grins at her.
"Wait... you said you came down here by choice? Why in the..."and then he lowers his voice so Sarith and the twins don't hear "why did you choose to come down here? You looking for something?"
Thom wants to understand Lia and what she says about the music note and her rationale for coming here. He really does. But all he can do is give her a blank stare when she explains about the note. "Huh. Seems the note was something of a warning sign, yeah? Definitely odd, madam Lia." and he looks at her again with the confused look as to why she would follow/investigate the note instead of go away from it.
At the pool, Thom would work with Stena handing her the stalks so she can soak them and then helping her bring them to lay dry. He would notice that she does not engage him in the smalltalk that he tried, and so he eventually stops but continues to work together with her doing that. He says to her "There! Perfect."
He would be open to Lia spicing up the dried stalks for sure! Just some salt and pepper would be ideal for him. "Salt makes everything better."
The water has a mineral taste, but not unpleasant, and Lia is able to give it at least a touch of flavor as folks are going to get their drinks. After everyone has drunk their fill, Stena and Thom somewhat silently work on getting the trillimac stalks soaking, the slowly running water in the basin turning a cloudy white as the stalks release their toxins. After a soak, Stena gives them a squeeze to get the last out, before a final rinse and wringing them out. Lia is able to speed things along a bit, and soon you have 28 pounds of edible stalk, in addition to the 14 of raw ripplebark.
((Each person needs to eat at least a pound of food per day. If you go half rations, you can stretch it further by eating a half pound per day. You'll all be able to clear exhaustion from lack of water with your next long rest.))
"If we portion it out now, we can eat as we go", suggests Jimjar.
((I'll take Perception to look for a place to camp as you continue moving on.))

That’s like… I could have jumped down into the waterfall, or I could have jumped the other way into the web with you… That’s not a choice!… Does an apple chose to grow?.. Or to fall from a tree?”. You get the feeling she’s speaking poetically and figuratively. She’s calm, just putting all it out there.
”Things are set in motion and you go.. where’s right.. to be”.
”It’s harmony, it’s balance… … It’s music”. She looks over and she looks both young and old at the same time; naive, and at the same time wise… She seems a little like a contradiction but also maybe like she’s finding her own kind of balance between two opposites.
As a performer, she knows when she’s losing the crowd and tries to bring it back, “What about you? You didn’t ‘choose’ to be here? Where are you from?…”.

Stena is more than happy to work in silence but does concede a nod to Thom when they are done.
To Jimjar's suggestion,
"It think that would be good, three pounds of food to everyone. Two pounds of trillmac and a pound of ripple bark. Depending on if Stool can eat the bluecap spores, Thom can keep a pound of trillmac and ripple bark in reserve."
She stops when she realizes this isn't a military group and asks belatedly,
"Agreed?"
She checks to see what Stool thinks of the bluecap.

Galingal spends much of the day focused forward on what dangers may lay ahead. He listens to Sarith's suggestion on pathways to choose but has to rely on his own senses to see if they're safe to pass.
He's not unfriendly with the others but he's not open either. These are not his people.
But when he listens to Lia's talk of going where's right and about harmony and balance he does finally join in.
"We're pawns. You go where you're pushed when the powerful wage wars," Galingal says. "There's no harmony. The more powerful gain more power."
He then looks over at Thom and turns his head first to one side than the other, assessing the half-elf.
"I came here to kill. And I did. Many. Orogs who dared trespass on the queen's lands. But they killed my brothers too. Many. Then I was too weak to fight more. The drow came. Had power and took me," he says then goes quiet for a long time. "If I have power maybe more brothers not be used as pawns."
While they look for somewhere to camp, Galingal takes out the thieves' tools and does what he can to try to make them work.
(Not sure who's still in collars, think all the manacles are off but will toss a few rolls in:

Once they settle in, Galingal will begin making a new trench/basin for water, accepting what help is offered, and will fill it with water again, using the spell prior to taking his meditation.
The more Lia talks to Thom the more blank his gaze gets as her eloquent, poetic thoughtful words are just going right over his head. (lol)
He snaps back when she asks him about how he got here and where he's from. "By the gods no I didn't choose to be here! Damn drow captured me when I was hunting for dinner. Ah what I'd give to be back on the surface again, minding my own business."
He kind of avoids Lia's question about where he's from and just says "Uhh... Neverwinter. Little spot outside of the city, yeah?"
He changes the subject quickly. "I wonder where the heck we even are. Bah, matters not. Once I see the sun I'll know which way to head for home, yeah?"
Thom responds to Stena about taking the reserve. "Sure ma'am, no problems." *added to char. sheet! (Thom can keep a pound of trillmac and ripple bark in reserve.)
Thom responds to Galingal, now realizing that this strange (again, in his mind) elf might have other intentions after the party makes their escape towards the inhabitants of the underdark. "You.. came here to kill? Oh... um, they trespassed on your queen's lands?"Thom doesn't really know what else to say other than "well mate, I'm sorry about your brothers, perhaps you can seek revenge once we're out of here, yeah?"
He ponders for a moment and then decides to ask him "Where are your queen's lands if you don't mind me asking, mate?"
Thom will help Galingal with the trench again as well.
Galingal looks up from the basin he and Thom are making and looks straight into the half-elf's eyes.
"Letherna is in the shadow realm," Galingal says matter-of-factly. "It touches this plane. The Orog came over at such a crossing. But something must have pushed them. Orcs do not venture near the Fortress of Memories unless something more powerful is scaring them."
He starts packing smooth stones into place in the basin.
"Regardless. They had to be killed," Galingal says, no emotion in his voice. Then he ponders something else Thom said. "It is not vengence that is needed. They are in Letherna again. And they will fight again. It is freedom."
He watches Thom work for a moment longer and then at the bow across his back and then he nods.
"You are useful."

Perception check, for a campsite (d/adv.): 20
If Galingal wants to try lock-picking again tonight, she’ll give him encouragement, and Bardic Inspiration.
((Bardic Inspitation (+d6) is with: Galingal ))
Bardic Inspiration:
Within 10 minutes, you can add d6 to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. It can be added after seeing the roll, but before knowing the outcome.
Alternatively, you can add d6 to the damage or healing done by a spell

Stena is more than happy to work in silence but does concede a nod to Thom when they are done.
To Jimjar's suggestion,
"It think that would be good, three pounds of food to everyone. Two pounds of trillmac and a pound of ripple bark. Depending on if Stool can eat the bluecap spores, Thom can keep a pound of trillmac and ripple bark in reserve."
She stops when she realizes this isn't a military group and asks belatedly,
"Agreed?"
She checks to see what Stool thinks of the bluecap.
Perception for a campsite: 6

And a d6 from inspiration if any of those are close: 1 )
Oh... um, they trespassed on your queen's lands?" Thom doesn't really know what else to say other than "well mate, I'm sorry about your brothers, perhaps you can seek revenge once we're out of here, yeah?"
