Thom responds to Galingal, trying to match him by looking right into the elf's eyes when he responds, but Thom definitely looks away a few times.
He is becoming more and more intimidated by this elf the more he speaks.
"Letherna, yeah? Can't say that I've heard of it. Though I'm not too familiar with the whole shadow realm lot, yeah? Never really learned much about it."
He listens to Galingal speak, and then thinks for a moment and says "Galingal, You think your people might be coming for you? You know, to rescue you and all, yeah? You think any of your brothers might've survived and are holed up down here somewhere?"
"Anyhow, I'm with ya on the freedom bit, yeah? Everyone deserves that." and he frowns.
"Yeah thanks I've dug a few trenches in my day you could say." and he laughs dryly.
When Stena looks and then starts to stare at Thom for a bit to see if he is mocking her, he doesn't say anything but gets EXTREMELY awkward and is relieved when she eventually stops.
You could roll an insight check I think and I will tell you results based on that!
((OOC: Oh nice! Awesome RP everyone! Ok, just catching up here a bit…))
In response to Thom, Lia says, “Oh, I know Neverwinter!… I was born in Phandalin, just south of the city. My mum and dad have a little bakery there… …”, she smiles and looks about six years old all of a sudden as she thinks of her home town.
When Galingal talks of the powerful, Lia’s eyes sparkle and she responds, “Yes! The powerful gain more power… But then the downtrodden rise up!!… That’s the stuff of song and music right there!”.
”The push and pull of power. Like two lumberjacks on their saw, either side of a felled tree pushing and pulling, fretting, while everything around them is turned to kindling!”. Her face goes from terror to treachery, then toil to triumph! Like she’s imagining all this the setting of an epic play.
When the party find a place to rest, Lia will offer the young twins a warm rock to fall asleep with again, if they want one. She feels like everyone will sleep a little better with food and water in their bellies…
Galingal looks at Lia's eyes sparkle and listens to the change in the tone in her voice. Then he looks over at Topsy and Turvy.
"You remind me of something from long ago," Galingal finally says. He pauses for a long moment, thinking; lost in the shadow of a memory form another life. Then he adds "I have never seen the lowly rise."
He moves off, and checks on Sarith to see how the drow is doing. They still need his guidance.
Maybe Lia sees something in Galingal’s look. She watches him reminisce, and says, “I think you have an artists soul after all… Even if it’s the ‘martial’ arts you prefer”. She grins to herself at her own play on words.
The rest of the party seems to be happy receive a few pounds of food, though it takes a few advocating caution to make the food last. It does make it a bit awkward to walk around carrying chunks of food, but after your stint as slaves and being food limited, no one's too bothered by the thought of having to set food down on the floor of the caves if needed.
You spend the rest of your march chatting a bit, the relief of being reasonably well fed and not thirsty buoying spirits.
The campsite for the night isn't the best, you finally call it a halt in the middle of a long tunnel that seemingly goes on forever. The floor rises and falls, while the ceiling stays about the same, so there are portions where the taller folks need to crouch, or even crawl through the rubble strewn floor. You call a halt in an area that is at least tall enough that everyone can stand. The ground won't be comfortable, but the debris behind and ahead should serve as an early warning if anyone approaches while you sleep.
Sarith lets Galingal know that he would be up for an night-time excursion after getting a good meditation in.
The shadow elf gets out his picks, and is able to spring Stena and Topsy, but doesn't manage to get Buppido and Derendil out of their collars.
Still Bound:
Buppido: Collar Derendil: Collar
After meditating, if Galingal wishes to forage, Sarith will accompany and Help.
End Day 2 of Freedom, traveling to Darklake: Miles traveled, ~18
Party Provisions:
((Everyone please deduct 1 lb of food from your inventory!))
Food:
All 1 lb raw ripplebark, 1 lb trillmac stalk. Stool, 1 lb spores.
After spending the first part of the night meditating, working hard to focus on the present and his breathing and not think about ravens and death, Galingal joins Sarith in searching the area.
Survival: 24
Come morning, if they found any food in the.night, Galingal would argue for a fast pace to put more distance between them and any pursuit.
Before setting out he tries the locks on Derendil’s collar.
Thieves’ Tools: 23
He looks at Buppido’s collar. It goes through his mind to fake failure. He likes the idea of Buppido not being able to sneak around. But at the same time that could alert the drow to their position. In the end he does his best to get the collar off.
Thom responds to Lia "Phandalin, right yes I know Phandalin, although I've never visited the place yeah?"(which might seems odd considering it's a well known place around there I'd say). He stops talking about where he's from and he is regretting bringing it up now after he's heard where Lia is from. Small world he thinks.
Thom doesn't talk much for the day 2 camp after that. He's tired and looks forward to the sleep.
Thom would want to travel at a normal pace for day 3, but when Galingal argues for a fast pace, he does not object whatsoever.
He almost falls in line, like he's used to or has experience with some type of military, or at the very least used to taking orders.
Stena might notice this also.
Thom sees Sarith and Galingal are quite successful with the foraging, so he decides to just focus on keeping a keen eye out as they travel.
"I'll scout the front, yeah?" and he keeps a keen eye as they travel on the start of day 3.
Perception: 20
((I also removed the 1lb of trillmac and 1lb of ripplebark - right Spider?))
@Spider, so stool only opens up the telepathic comms if we request it and he accepts, right? Like its not always on, right?
Now that Denedril is free (likely?) he also says "Your royalness, how are you doing yeah?"
When Thom says he’s never been to Phandalin, Lia offers a pleasant smile that says she won’t pursue it for now. She simply says, “Well you should try The White Dragon Bakery, if we ever get out of here. Best bread you’ll find… And my mother makes a kind of soft hardtack for the trail, with fruit and nuts, if you’re more into that…”. She lends him a pleasant smile mixed with some hope of escaping this place eventually.
If the elves find enough food for a day (or two), and we keep making water day and night (assuming we don’t come across any), then Lia would vote for a fast pace today. But is happy with normal pace if people prefer.
The twins exchange a glance, Turvy muttering something to Topsy, before she replies to Stena in Undercommon.
"We're both well, I think it just rattled me a bit, doesn't even hurt anymore. Thank you for asking."
Eldeth responds to Stena's checking in.
"Yeah, I'm feeling pretty okay, the slice wasn't as deep as it felt at first, seems to be scabbing over well, no signs of infection. Not a lot, to be honest, I think it's more of a region than an actual lake, though I think there are some of those. More a network of watery tunnels and caves, if I recall. Though I suspect that Shuushar would know it best, I think most kuo-toa settlements are in the Darklake area."
Galingal and Sarith meditate for the first part of camp, then rouse themselves and start circling out from the camp, backtracking if they get too far away. They eventually happen upon a shallow pool of water. Dipping a finger in, you find it brackish and sour, but Sarith seems excited by the spherical fungi that are growing within it.
"They're waterorbs! They can grow in foul water, but in doing so, they filter it and make it drinkable! The interior flesh is spongy and edible once they're mature too. Doesn't taste like much, and it's chewy, but a single waterorb have enough to keep you going all day."
There are 4 mature waterorbs in the pool, each one eight inches or so in diameter. The exterior is hard, but with a slight give.
"A lot of the broth we were served was boiled water orb... but if Lia does her flavor thing, might be able to get it tasting like something worthwhile! They'll transport well and keep until we crack the outer surface, then you can scoop out the flesh and either wring the water out of it, or eat it as is."
Cradling a water orb in each arm, the two of you head back to camp, where the others are rousing.
Galingal manages to free the last two escaped slaves from their collars, the Prince heartily shaking your hand as Jimjar sighs at his bet not coming to fruition. Buppido gives a relieved grin as he grabs the pair of collars and presents them to Lia with a flourish and a bow for her to dirty and dispose of them.
Day 3 of Freedom, traveling to Darklake: Miles traveled, ~18 FAST PACE

You can have deduced a pound of whichever you wish from your inventory.))
((Yes, Stool only opens it up if prompted, or if he has something to say/share. If he has uses at the end of the day, he'd activate it as you're making camp.))
With about as much food as they can carry, and the ability to make water up to a couple times a day, and everyone recovered from being thirsty, there are votes to pick up the pace. Thom repositions himself closer to the front, and does what he can to keep alert even at their rapid pace.
You all set off, and after a short bit, Sarith pauses to scratch his head. "I think we took a wrong turn... give me a moment..."
He's eventually able to get back on track, with some assists from others, and you start making good time. It's a long day, and the constant chill, damp caverns are starting to grow wearying. Sleeping on loose rubble last night didn't help your comfort level, but at least you are fed.

She'll give both a nod before departing.

"I guess we should get the details we can from him before getting there. Let me know if the would starts acting up. We might need to speak with the odd elf, but better than rotting. Sleep well."
She'll approach Shushaar (undercommon),
"Hello Shushaar. What can ye tell meh about the Darklake area? What kind of place is it and what kind of reception can we expect to get there?"
Stena, it's probably just sibling stuff, Topsy's been trying to smooth over Turvy nearly killing Buppido for pulling her from the water when she was bumped her head.
Eldeth doesn't quite follow.
"The wood?"
Shuushar blinks his big eyes.
"Dark and wet. Big area, lots of rivers flow there, most not explored. Gray dwarfs make outposts and water lifters, connect parts of the Darklake. Lots of places connect to Darklake, but finding the path isn't easy. Other kuo-toa live in the Darklake, lots at Sloobludop. May be able to help, but their minds are churning chaos. Water isn't good to drink, but there are mushrooms and fish to eat, so with Glulglinglal to make water, we will be alright."
