For something like a pistol, you get seven to ten magazines that hold 7-15 rounds, depending on the size of the round. It takes a bonus action to reload. The 100 gp does not need to replace any of the starting equipment from the class and background. If you already have the equipment you want/need, by all means, keep the 100 gp. That's on the house! You can certainly take the cannon shield, and count it as the whole thing included. )

Super interested in joining! Looks like an awesome setting from what I have read so far. Dropping this as a reminder to read more when I get to work in the morning and hopefully make a character if you don't fill up before I get to it.
(First off, DDB only does homebrew sub classes, not base classes. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't put the unique homebrew base classes I've built on here. Not all the classes are homebrew, I get it, but some are. Also, I'm broke as ****, lol. I couldn't afford any of the fancy books this site offers if I wanted to right now. Second off, I've had this other page up for a long time! Why try to recreate everything on here, when we can just post here? I know it's more convenient to have everything here, but it's more so for me as the DM to have a pre-made source of all of my information that I've had for years instead of trying to move it all over here. Maybe one day I will.)

((So the shield cannon has an innate +5 +0 DEX + 0 Prof, so he'd still have a +5 to hit at 80/150 ft? Fire it off if combat starts outside of melee, then it's just a shield, reload between encounters. Nice. He'll probably have better ranged options once he hits subclass, but it's a fun start!))

In case you’re familiar, I’m thinking of his monastery/ path as something akin to Euthanatos from Mage in the World of Darkness - not evil, but with a very non-standard view of life & death….

Backstory: Victor used to make guns for the military until one day members of a criminal organization abducted his wife and threatened to kill her if he didn't comply with their demands. They wanted Victor to steal a recently made order of guns and deliver it to a safehouse outside of the city. That night he brought the shipment to the drop-off location and made the exchange to get his wife back. While walking back into town the criminals gunned them down from behind and left them to die in the road. Victor survived but his wife did not. He now has his mind set on tracking down those responsible and delivering justice/getting revenge. (Probably on the run for stealing the military's guns.. will need some help figuring out who that is and what leads I might have on a criminal organization that would be involved).
