You continue on your path, and the rest of the day passes uneventfully. You lay down camp for the night under a outcropping rock, chat a little and go to sleep. The next day, the snow starts to fall harder, much harder. You keep to the road as the snowstorm rages, covering the sandy trail with a thick blanket of white, slowing down your travel. Soon the day sets and so you camp outside again, having still not reached nor seen Eastwick.
On your third day of travel, the snow dwindles back to light flurries. You come across a plain wooden bridge crossing a wide river; its bed reaching almost to each end of the bridge, swollen by the recent snows. The planks creak under the thick white layer upon it, and one of the boards snaps and falls down, to be swept by the current downstream. A bit further upstream, there seems to be large, moss-covered rocks jutting from the river at semi-regular intervals, that might be used for crossing on foot if the bridge were out.
You all get two long rests. It is now the 7th of Emberfall.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
***** scratches his chin and looks over the two crossing points mulling things over then turns to his companions, "this may take a bit so if no one has anything better to do, I am thinking, in any case, we could do with a bit of rope, so who all has some rope, speak up... I got nada. We could also use a ten or fifteen-foot pole not thick or overly heavy, might come in handy to measure the water depth and such, etc."
Second thing ***** does is cast aDruidcraft cantrip to get an idea what the weather will be like for the next twenty-four hours.
After that, the little Goblin checks out the bride, the immediate area around the bridge, and the water/river/stream underneath... eyeballing them to get an idea of the distance involved in crossing the bridge and how high above the bride is over the water so if someone fell how far of a drop... and not if there are rocks or rapids below it. He will cast anotherDruidcraft cantrip on the river figuring if he can use it to get a bead on the weather then why not use it on the water to see if he can determine river depth, speed, temperature, never hurts to try he shrugs otherwise until checks closer with a pole eyeball it so a back up use his Nature5skill.
Now as to the bridge itself, ***** has the impression it is a simple swinging rope bridge type of thing just for foot traffic not for horses and wagons and such but not wanting to assume he takes a closer look at it to get an idea how wide is the bridge is... i.e. can two or more people walk side by side or just one at a time only? If not a simple rope bridge does it have supports going down into riverif so are they stone or wood? And what kind of wood is bridge or bridge planks made from? How much snow has collected on the bridge? Perception13 / Investigation16 with regard to his eyeballing bridge and distances, etc.
Once his examination of the bridge is complete ***** will give a closer look at the rock crossing point area, on his way there checking the now for animal tracks or humanoid footprints, to determine if there has been any activity recently since the snow fell at least and where other creatures may be crossing if at all.Survival15 / Nature9 skills.
On to the moss covered rocks crossing area... how wide is the river here... how far apart from one another are the rocks from each otherwith idea that they are not spaced too far apart for a 4' tall goblin to make use of... get a feel for or estimate about how damage the moss to have before being destroyed by say something like heat/flame/radiance thinking moss alone plus cold snow is possibly slippery... then make the same kind of estimate on those stepping stones themselves before destroyed by say something like heat/flame/radiance as even with hisSlippers of Spider Climbing they are not helpful on slippery moss or ice... so on the stones and river there does the Druidcraft cantrip again wanting the determine river depth, speed, temperature, there or resorting to eyeballing it so a back up use his Nature12 / Investigation11skill. If he or someone comes up with a pole or long branch and from the shore stick it in between the shore and first stone to get a general impression of depth there understanding it can get deeper further on.
***** is favoring at the moment the stone crossing area over the bridge but wants to hedge his bet with the stones considering casting Sacred Flame on the moss-covered probably ice covered stones to destroy or melt/burn them off to make moving over them less hazardous and slippery. So after he checks the water depth with cantrip or branch give the are before the first stone a test and then actually cast Sacred Flame on it just to see what happens. Thinking since they are immobile (--ooc maybe no dexterity and no save--).
At the moment the general idea he will propose to the others is to if the stones get cleared from the test Sacred Flame then keep repeating it as far as he can (60') on each stone one by one then trying a length of rope around himself with Kugan tied next staying on shore to pull him back to the shore so should ***** slip and fall into the water. If the distance is too far then suggests they all tie themselves along the rope as climbers do with another space between them so each one has room to be on different rocks/stones one by one with ***** going first to keep burning clean the stones until they reach the other side.
Player Note: ***** is doing all that and ends with the Sacred Flame test on the first stone/rock and will not proceed with the rest of the plan until he has all the data at hand from the various questions and tests above. So everything he will do but not starting moving across physically just yet but just shares the idea itself with the others.
Your druidcraft conjures a few flakes of snow falling slowly. A bit later, these flakes form into clouds for a time, then vanish.
The river is 50ft wide now. The bridge is 60ft long, and is suspended 10ft over the river at it's highest. Your druidcraft can't help you with the measurements, but the river flows slowly, but strongly; its waters are very cold and the furthest you can measure its depths is 10ft with a pole, if you step into the waters on the side. Your best guess is the river is 25 or 30ft deep at its deepest.
The bridge is a once sturdy arch, fully made out of wood. It is quite wide, enough to carry wagons and the like as it is on the main road between Duskport and Eastwick. Wooden handrails arch over its sides. The bridge doesn't have any supports leading into the river below it, but the sides of it seem to be made of one long piece of wood, holding the many planks betwixt them. You cannot determine the type of wood the bridge is made out of, but you hear it creak under the snow piled across it; not much snow, maybe 1/2-1ft thick, but spread over the bridge.
As you cast Sacred Flame on the first stone (( I need you to roll damage please? )).
